​@@dundee6402technically the game cube games are optional and you only need to play less than half of Ruby and Sapphire because the game treats Ho-oh and Lugia as mythicals in this game and doesn't count them towards the completion of the national Dex and you can get all 3 beasts by replying the kanto game an extra time

I'm glad someone else has finally pointed out that Slowpoke is the odd one out in only being in a single gen 3 game... I learned this the hard way for my own Gen 3 dex.

Yeah, it's one of the many hard lessons I learned while doing a Gen 3 Dex, alongside the 60 Pokémon requirement for the Sevii Islands, or the fact Celebi is unobtainable outside Japan. Hopefully YOUR Gen 3 Dex went better than mine!

Regarding the extra Haunter that you caught for Emerald: make sure to give it an Everstone when trading it, along with any other Pokemon that you don't want to evolve when traded. If I remember right, you cannot cancel trade evolutions with the B button in Generation 3, so they require an Everstone to stay at their pre-evo stage if my memory (and searching) is correct.

Good luck with the Colosseum Mt. Battle climb! Make sure you follow the right process before starting so you actually get the Ho-Oh, spam your strongest Pokémon to win (legendary beasts, Metagross, Espeon, etc.), and you'll be fine if you know what you're doing in double battles

Im enjoying following along with this. One thing I'd really like to see is the number of mons needed to finish the dex, or just how many you have left. Like: Caught, Living, and Remaining or sum. It would be a nice indicator of progress that might make the whole thing feel more satisfying.

i just love the way you make your videos. I never played the old games (Gen 1 and 2) when they came out because my parents thought everything was "Mario" so... i only played the same Mario game over and over in my childhood. My first pokemon game was Sapphire in 2007 (when i was 17 years old)... on an Emulator, so Gen 3 is so precious to me (I love Emerald) :D Anyway, looking forward to your living dex in Gen 3.

Good thing you'll attempt the mt battle challenge. Otherwise the experience of doing the living dex challenge wouldn't be the same. It might be tedious to do a second time (believe me I have done a 100% speedrun of both colo and XD), but in the end it will be worth it 😁

5:10 I know how it is. I spent an entire weekend tallying and trading all the Pokemon I had caught in Emerald, Pearl, Black2, and Y when I was trying to complete the Pokedex in Y when it first came out. I had made multiple mistakes and sent over too many of some evolution trees, but I did successfully get a complete Pokedex in Y.

Its ok if you don't get a 3rd Dratini cause you are guaranteed a Dragonite in XD if you catch everything and that's what I ended up doing. Good luck with the Mt.Battle Challenge. I did that once for 100% Pokedex and it took over 5 hours and I was using a team that would 1 shot both Pokemon every turn. It only really gets hard at the end and even then it just takes a long time to do. I hope if you do it and you wanna use your caught Pokemon from other games then MAKE SURE you trade them into Colosseum. If you use a GBA on the menu there it won't count. ALSO YOU NEED TO DO IT IN THE MENU! If you do it in the story mode IT WONT COUNT AND JUST GIVE YOU A TIME FLUTE AND NOT HO-OH! I'm scared that you'll make one of those mistakes. Outside of that I look forward to you tackling Mt.Battle.

Instead of catching a bunch of trade fodder to get thing into Emerald, I would suggest using Pokémon Box Ruby & Sapphire. It's basically Pokémon Bank/HOME for the GBA gen 3 games, and despite the name, it does work with FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald after certain requirements have been made (Completing the Sevii Islands 2nd visit for FRLG, and entering the Hall of Fame for Emerald). Pokémon Box Ruby & Sapphire is also has the first appearance of Brigette, who later went on to being the host of Pokémon Bank.

Information on Mt. Battle and Celebi. Mt. Battle: It needs to be done from the Battle Mode menu and not the one in your save, it also needs to be done in one sitting if i rememember from my time doing it. It also must use your story mode pokemon (Though can be cheesed by trading OP mons to said story mode game). If you beat a battle without a mon fainting, you gain a continue to retry a hard battle. Celebi: This requires either a Japanese Gamecube, a GameCube with a modchip that disables the region lock, or a method to boot and run Swiss, a homebrew program for the GameCube. Even then, unfortunately unlike Bonus Disc Jarachi, Bonus Disc Celebi is only distributed to a Japanese gen 3 pokemon game (you can trade between JP and US games unlike Gens 1-2 thankfully). The biggest hurdle, especially for you, is the bonus disc requires a completed japanese save of Coloseeum. Which means 48 Purified Pokemon, in japanese. 100% saves do exist if you find using a already completed save legitimate.

This series has been so fun to watch! I already have a complete Hoenn pokedex in Emerald already. With all three johto starters from my second copy of emerald. I traded over the whole living dex twice for it. Its really funny going through the game story with technically a completed pokedex. I have a decent amount of the pokemon in Fire Red. I own a copy of Leaf Green but i still cant find it after like 15+ years. I also own a copy of colosseum, but holy crap is that game boring and unfair. Im like almost at the end but my team is low 40s and the trainers are like 50s. Honestly what im worried about is running out of space in my main Emerald copy. Thats where my living dex is and im also trying to figure out the battle frontier. So far im using a properly trained metagross and dragonite and a not so properly trained salamace i got all the way to lvl 100 on my own in sapphire in like 2012. Overall if i ever get a long enough break and the motivation i could make a series dent in the gen 3 national living dex

So, as an alternative to needing to pokerap/show every capture, you could have some kind of scrolling log under the ticker showing the most recent additions? Something like how a lot of streamers will have chat show up there, except instead of 'Hi KZbin', it says something like, "Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Poliwhirl (for trade)".

The transfer of Jirachi is repeatable. The disk keeps track of trainer IDs so you can only send one per savefile though.

I know you said no glitches, but if you want to save yourself the time sink of restarting 15(? I'm too lazy to check my math) times to get all the starters multiple times over and eevees and such. There is a glitch in emerald using the I think battle tower on the battle frontier of emerald to clone a pokemon. I'd list the steps, but it's a little hazy in my mind from like, 10 years ago when I last did it, but I'm sure it's out there on a old cheats website somewhere.

If you want to have an easy time with Mount Battle in Colosseum, just trade in the legendaries from Emerald and swip the whole thing. The only penalty you get is less coupons, but who cares? the only thing worth anything in the shop is the Liechi Berry.

Allow me to use this comment to propose a solution to the slowpoke enigma and also bring more variety to the playable Pokémon in Pokémon colosseum at the same time. My solution is to give Street Preformer Nortz a Shadow Slowpoke and Cipher Peon Kison a Shadow Bannette: Initial Movesets: Slowpoke Lv37+: Shadow Rush (Calm Mind once Purified), Psychic, Surf, Protect, Bannette Lv37+: Shadow Rush (Brick Break Once Purfied), Will-o-Wisp, Shadow Ball, Protect.
