i hated when they replaced the slots with voltorb flip... the old slots were not RNG they were timetable, it may have been near frame perfect but you could do it, way harder in a emulator unless you have get the input delay down with some of the latest hardware (maybe if you have a old gpu and a CRT it is also good), but on the original hardware it was a game of skill then where were time the thing would randomly change the results if you just missed it by a hair or lost giving you a second chance. the gambling in the old games was a skill game that looked like gambling, these rating organization are crap they freak out when something 'looks like gambling' but when it 100% gambling without looking like classic gambling they ignore it completely even when it goes so far as to use REAL IN LIFE MONEY (loot boxes) that is literally the same as a slot machine in Vegas except you get a something usually a worthless 'prize' even if you get a 'prize' if the value is 0 it the same as not getting a payout in the 1st place maybe i would not have hated voltorb flip if there was a NPC that explained how it worked, i never had to buy coins when there were slots

Shiny hunting is great in theory but its ever changing mechanics and rules get tiresome, some games had great shiny capture systems while other one had terrible ones one none at all. It doesn't help that the value of shinies has dropped significantly in the last couple of generations so the excitement about hunting them is nowhere near as strong as it used to be.

FireRed and Leafgreen had good game corners for one reason alone: the games weren't chance, the slot machines were a test of skill to see if you could properly time stopping the reels.

Some people just don't don't get. Gen 3 had everything you'd ever want in a Pokemon game. The newer gens are overly complicated because they've run out of ideas. Also the 3D arcade style just doesn't feel right.

My problem with the removal of the casinos is that - Voltorb Flip aside - it's been replaced with nothing. Just like so many other Pokemon features, the effort is just simply not put in any more.

You've put the Brazilian flag at minute 1:20 while talking about translations for the "game corner" name, however, Pokémon has never been translated or localized in portuguese

Gen.1, Gen.2 and Gen.3 The only Pokémon games to ever get a rating of 18+. All thanks to a silly little mechanic, that most players just skip over anyways.

I'm thankful for Pokémon teaching me how extremely boring and frustrating gambling is. I hate that crap. Now I wonder if europe rates games with gachas and lootboxes as 18... Because they 100% should.

I miss the game corner, it was a nice change of pace. At least Dragon Quest has kept casinos and bunny girls so that's filled that gap for me.

Replacing the gambling with other minigames like Voltorb Flip was the best move out of what they did. Shame they never thought to bring in a spiritual successor to the Casio's in the forme of Arcades.

It’s ridiculous these mini games were removed. Were we not all taking a gamble when we bought booster upon booster back in the day? With actual money? Come on now.

PEGI has had a history updating ratings, another notable example is Metal Gear Solid 3, that was first rated 16+, but the Subsistence re-release and every release since was rated 18+. In that case I wonder if it was changing standards between time of release, or if there was something in the game that pushed it over the line that PEGI had missed, since usually the rating is based on information the publisher gives rather than hands on experience with the game. Also PEGI 18+ is in many ways closer to the ESRB M rating, since stores usually don't have policies against selling PEGI 18+ games like they do with AO rated games in the US.

As a kid, I hated the safari zone in Red/Green/Blue/Yellow. And in any replay attempts ever since, I stopped at the safari zone as well because - it isn’t fun at all. It feels like grinding for the sake of grinding. Even official guidebooks from that time could not explain how it works in a proper, logic way.

So technically, since Germany has USK... did we only lose the gamecorners because of PEGI? :O Cause in Germany Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crsystal still have USK 0 XD But I love Voltorb Flip, so I'm glad we got that ^^ Could it be... that PEGI is the reason we still didn't see a rerelease of the old Pokemon games on the Switch? Think about it, if they rerelease the games and have to get a new PEGI rating of 18 and Gen 1 - Gen 3 is affected, so they eigther have to remove the slot machine functionality in all these games or they would get a rating of 18 ....

Not sure why you used a serious illness to weirdly describe the story of Emerald. It doesn't really make sense, as you seemed to be using "schizophrenic" as a placeholder for multiple personalities or something. That's not what it is, and I'd recommend not using illnesses as adjectives.

Well thank goodness the innocent youth have been saved the horrible act of silly slot machines with fictitious money. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll have to go back to the annual EA sport release full of lootboxes, micro transactions and casino mechanics that uses actual real money on game of chance. Cause that's okay and will get a 3/E rating no problem

I'm surprised the Battle Frontier wasn't mentioned because it was a post-game that honestly was an amazing idea, a concept that would be carried over to Platinum (not Diamond and Pearl tho for some odd reason) and even HGSS (which replaced the Battle Tower that was introduced in Crystal with the Battle Frontier). Emerald's addition of the Battle Frontier compared to what Ruby and Sapphire had which was just the Battle Tower. The Battle Frontier also included a cave called the Artisan Cave that contains the Pokemon Smeargle. My point is that the Battle Frontier in Emerald was pretty dope (even tho I much prefer the Platinum & HGSS one).

Some unfortunate implications with the Celadon Game Corner: You're funding Team Rocket when you buy their coins. You're probably buying stolen TMs. You're probably buying Pokemon that were brutally kidnapped.
@SplitzblueКүн бұрын
I was thinking about the Game Corner not too long ago and wondered "How would you make it, well, child-friendly?" And the solution is simple: Do what was done in Emerald, FRLG, and HGSS and replace them with minigames. Especially since Nintendo is no stranger to these kinda of locations in video games. For example, in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Pianta Parlor in Rougeport has a matching game as well as four minigames that can be accessed by receiving the Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Special Cards respectfully, which are obtained as reward for completing four different Troubles. The minigames however require the abilities obtained from the black chests. And while the Pianta Parlor also has slot machines (a total of two), they aren't as important compared to the other games. Not that they matter anyway since they're exclusive to the GameCube version (surprise surprise). Now, if the Game Corner were to return, what kind of minigames would it have? Here's the ones I thought of: - A card flip game similar to that in Gen 2. - Voltorb Flip-type of game. - A Magikarp minigame where you jump over obstacles. Basically something among the lines of Magikarp's Splash from Pokemon Stadium. (can be played in multiplayer; Online, Local, Co-op, and against CPUs) - A launching minigame where you launch a Pokemon and see how far it can go. - A matching game of sorts. - A pinball game. (which is mainly just an excuse to bring back Pokemon Pinball or at the very least make an in-game version of it) - A running game where you try to get as far as possible. Kinda like Run, Rattata, Run from Pokemon Stadium. (can be played in multiplayer) Edit: Forgot to mention this, but having Pokemon gacha game like Pokemon Masters (or I guess rather Pokemon Masters EX) is okay. But a Game Corner with slot machines? Nope! Can't have that! It's too much! If anyone here can think of any others, just leave a comment.

I'll be honest here in saying that I hated that they replaced the slots with Voltorb flip in HGSS as I just frankly didn't find Voltorb Flip very fun, so learning now that the slots still existed in the JP versions of HGSS came as a shock and makes me a tad bit jealous of the JP players who got what I had looked forward to back in the day.
