Critical hits are tied to speed. Moves with increased chance to crit will always if the Pokemon is fast enough like Venusaur's Razor Leaf, Charizard's Slash or Kingler's Crabhammer.

There actually is a small chance of not getting the crit. I don't know why, but it may be related to how moves with a chance of 255 can miss.

Well, technically a move can never ALWAYS crit in Gen 1. See, how they made it work was by having a critical hit threshold, then generating a random number (in both cases, the number ranges from 0 to 255, inclusive), and if the generated number is STRICTLY less than (not equal to) the threshold, it will crit. For example, Charizard using Slash would have a crit threshold of 255, the max, meaning that it will almost always get a crit, unless it generates EXACTLY 255. Specifically, the max crit chance in Gen 1 is 255/256, or approximately 99.61%.

Actually for the Safari Zone, in FRLG you do want to throw bait first at Chansey, Kangaskhan, Scyther, Pinsir, Tauros, Dratini, and Dragonair, because it will NOT decrease their catch chance as intended because there is a lower cap, but WILL reduce their flee chance. For Chansey only, it will actually slightly increase its catch rate because its default is lower than the minimum cap for baited pokemon. Source is the Bulbapedia page for the Kanto Safari Zone

Not likely but surely. The ball shakes are tied to the current chance of catching the mon: if it shakes many times it's easy to catch, if it miss outright it's hard to catch, and this stays the same until the chance changes (like inflicting a status or lowering their hp), so the moment the ball makes contact instead of missing you KNOW you caught it

Razor Leaf almost always crit because of gen 1 formula. Meaning it is even stronger then Solar beam because it always crits, same with Slash being better on high crit pokemon then body slam

Razor Leaf not charging, it's definitely always better than Solar Beam, even if you aren't guaranteed to crit, like unevolved Oddish or Bulbasaur. Body Slam v Slash, slash hits like a truck but body Slam inflicts status. Outside of competitive, body Slam ends up niche when you can pick between the two, but it isn't strictly worse.

Dumping all your xp on to one (usually starter) mon is the best way to go for Gen1. AI trainer stats are coded to be much weaker than anything you can catch and a basic coverage of move types can shred through the league.

Ok, so here's my criticism to things you could improve, like * said, you already have a very good starting point. Some simple editing tricks to make some moments "funnier" like a simple zoom, for example, on the moltres when it was caught to add some emphasis on that "huh" or the "that can happen" *zoom* "right". Another thing you could do is a little transition that slowly fades in when you remind yourself of something similar that happened during a certain situation. Or for when you have to have multiple tries with something difficult just throw them around the screen to make the viewer see how many tries it took with some focused on certain situations that gave you problems, then finally showing in full the try where you came out on top. For the script I would suggest To keep the casual way of talking of the commentary, but I would write it in a way that removes the "uhh"s type of pauses you make, to make it more concise and interesting to get the viewer more hooked on what you're saying, since those "uhh"s can get a little annoying if you want to listen to the point being made. You could use those short sounds for emphasis on certain moments like the "huh" on moltres or an "uhhh hh" When you're stuck on something with a slow zoom. That way I think you could really improve your content. You already have a very good starting point, and I think thay you really got some potential. I hope my advice is useful to you :)

I think an interesting variant would be a partnered living dex, only allowing the minimum number of games (one red, one blue) and shooting for a living dex with another person on both your games. Eevee might be the most tedious part of this co-op challenge though.

I'm going to do this with Yellow as my main game. That way I have easy access to multiple starter Pokémon as Bulbasaur Squirtle and Charmander are all available in Yellow. Once you've completed your pokedex, are you going to transfer your livingdex to Bank and then to Home? If so, you might want to influence the nature they'll get upon transferring, which is depending on the last two digits of your Pokémon's acquired XP.

I was considering doing the same challenge on Pokémon Yellow as well, but it is too similar and actually even less convenient since you to play 3 versions. Partway through your video I noticed Living Pokedex and Owned Pokemon were the same, despite you having a Blastoise on your first play-through, which is impossible since there's only one Squirtle in each version, so your Living Pokedex should be at least 2 fewer than Owned Pokemon. pls. pls. pls. The past tense of 'catch' is 'caught' not 'catched'. Irregular verbs (which use the older native rules of English instead of modern English for E2L Vikings simplified regular verbs) are endangered enough as it is.
