Transferred from a video I made while on holiday in Whitley Bay.
Spanish City, which was an Amusement Park at the time, and had the "Corkscrew" which I went on....very good it was too.
The young girl in the video is my daughter Tracey.

Used to work there about that time. I ran the octopus and occasionally the go carts. Happy days

Grew up in Whitley Bay in the late 50s and 60s. The Spanish City was the centre of my life back then! Great memories!

God! There was a Corkscrew at Whitley Bay! They should have kept Spanish City as an amusement park, a classy one though.

Wait in 1980's Spanish City had the same major ride as Alton Towers! I went there circa 2000 as a kid when visiting family friends and Spanish City was this tiny run down amusement area on the coast. I still loved it but clearly it was something special at one point

Yes, I remember it best in the mid 1960's to early 1970's. I have great memories of the Waltzers etc there as a teenager. Thanks for watching.

That Corkscrew ride ended up in Flamingo Land according to Wikipedia. When I went to Spanish City as a kid, I was too small to ride the corkscrew, but I rode it at Flamingo land...it was fun.

Love that ride. If anybody fancies a go on it nowadays you need to go to a small park in the south of France. Moved there about 8 years ago from Flamingo Land.

Aye it's at a place called Luna Park in Cap D'Agde. It now goes under the name of Apocalypse. Got my info from the Roller Coaster Database (yes there is one for nerds like me :D). I remember hearing the corkscrew from my garden in Monkseaton on a clear day - the ghosltly whirring of it going up the ramp followed by loads of screams as it starts going round. Happy days.

We have brilliant beaches here but apart from a couple of amusement arcades there's absolutely nothing. Shame on North Tyneside Council ! Take a trip across the River to South Shields to see how it's done. Whitley Bay Town centre and surrounding streets are a disgrace. Worked on The Demon's Den ghost train one Summer and loved every minute.
