Join us for a tour of three of the best and oldest speakeasies of Chicago - each of these welcomed some of the most notorious mobsters and ne'er-do-wells of the prohibition era. If you're traveling to Chicago, this is a must see trip through time to learn the REAL history of the city.
Our first stop is the Green Door Tavern, supplied by North Side Gang leader, Dean O'Banion. Today it remains as a neighborhood hang out with great cocktails and even better meals, but the speakeasy is still there, waiting for you to visit.
Our second destination takes us to the Swedish alcove of Andersonville, where we find Simon's Tavern. Founded by a Swedish immigrant in the 1920s and supplied its booze by the Chicago Outfit - Al Capone's gang - this old dive has seen it all. Don't miss the handsome bar or the nickel tour that the owner, Scott, will give you if you ask.
Our last bar is the famous Green Mill Jazz Lounge in Uptown Chicago. Opened originally to be America's answer to the Moulin Rouge, it eventually became a speakeasy run by one of the most notorious enforcers that Al Capone ever hired. This place is a classy jazz club today, complete with green, crushed velvet booths and great drinks!
Along the way we'll also learn about pretty revolting Chicago native spirit and one of the most notorious bartenders to ever pour a drink!

It’s often claimed, and not disputed much, that in 1927, the Knickerbocker Hotel was Al Capone’s favorite haunt, and may still be today. Bolstered by sightings of Al in the wee small hours, and that on the Penthouse floor, back in the day, Al’s brother Ralphy operated a speakeasy/casino.

Cheers - thanks for the nice choice of musical background - jazz and subtle - not electronic dance music... nice doc!

Andersonville is not a suburb on the outskirts of the city. It’s a neighborhood within the City of Chicago.
