This is a very interesting war. Mainly because it wasn't let because the ottomans were the "sick men of Europe" but because they were faced with overwhelming numbers. It's amazing how they still managed to put up an amazing defence of their core territories. Poor roads and ottoman military customs prevented them from keeping prolonged control over Hungary but seeing that they were already being pushed on all fronts, it's still amazing

2:52 That push into Transilvania which made possible for the Ottomans to push the Holy League back across the Danube was made possible by the Wallachian victory of Zarnesti, where a combined army of Wallachians, Turks, Tatars and Transilvanians led by Wallachian voievode Constantin Brancoveanu decisively defeated the Imperial army in Transilvania, put a pro-Ottoman pretender on the Transilvanian throne and forced the Imperials to move troops from Serbia to take back Transilvania. The battle of Zarnesti was the moment the Holy League's advance was stopped.

The Romanians should have joined The League right then and there, instead of staying loyal to the Ottomans.
@tepesobrejac436010 ай бұрын
@@yazovgaming I understand the viewpoint. But from Romanians' perspective, the suzeranity of a declining Ottoman Empire was preferable to the control of an expanding Habsburg Empire. And after annexing Transilvania, the Habsburgs forced the Romanian Orthodox Christians of the region, who up until that point were united with the Church from Wallachia, which was also able to guarantee them a moderate amount of protection from Transilvania's local Catholic rulers, to unite with the Catholic Church, and then led a brutal crackdown on those who refused to unite. The Habsburgs weren't better than the Ottomans. But that doesn't mean the Ottomans were good either. Constantin Brâncoveanu found out that himself when they outstripped him of his titles, and then imprisoned him and his children, tortured them and then made them choose between their lives and the Orthodox-Christian faith. They all chosed the faith.

To all those pointing out how impressive it is that the Turks held out against so many enemies (which I’m not denying), it should be pointed out that the Habsburgs were at war with France from 1688 to 1697, during which time most of their forces were in the west. You can kind of see it on the map: from the beginning of the war to about 1688, the Holy League is dominant. From there to about 1697, the Turks fight back and the front stabilizes. From there to the end, the League is ascendant again.

You can only defeat Turks When you made Allies. Terms Of Treaty Of Constantinople (1533) Ferdinand withdrew his assertions on Hungary (save a small territory in the west of Hungary) Szapolyai was legitimized as the King of Hungary under Ottoman suzerainty. Austria agreed to pay annual tributes of 30,000 guldens. Ferdinand was to be considered as the King of Germany, and Charles V as the King of Spain, and they were equal to the Grand Vizier of Ottoman Empire. Moreover, they were banned to count anyone as 'Emperor' except the Ottoman Emperor.
