We were there on July 22nd and the water was NOT that clean and clear and had a strong current. We still had fun though

You have to know the tide schedule. You want to go to Crab Island on an incoming tide (Gulf if flooding the bay with Gulf water). Avoid outgoing tide. The current there is always strong.
