From ancient time, Chinese emperor enlisted Muslim in army and entrusted with important posts. The most famous event is "Zheng He's Voyages". Zheng He (1371-1433 or 1435), formerly romanized as Cheng Ho, was a Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat, fleet admiral, and court eunuch during China's early Ming dynasty. He was originally born as Ma He in a Muslim family, later adopted the conferred surname Zheng from Emperor Yongle. Zheng commanded expeditionary voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, Western Asia, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433. His larger ships stretched 120 meters or more in length. These carried hundreds of sailors on four tiers of decks. South China sea became important "belt" for old Chinese's trade route.

The size you quoted did not come from shipbuilders, but came from a storyteller Ma Huan (马欢) who lived in the 1400s. He might have fabricated the whole story of Zheng He's voyages in addition to fabricating the ship's sizes. That is, Zheng He might have never commanded hundreds of huge ships when he went to sea. It is all a hoax.

As a Chinese, let me provide some information. 1, the name HE is pronounced wrongly. It should be pronounced as "Ha", as in "hello". 2, reasons for his expeditions to be then stopped was due to his success, then increasing popularity and then threatened the vested interests of government officials who then persuaded the emperor to stop all such voyages. They even black mouthed him for possible rebels if he kept on commanding large navy power. As such, all boats were ordered to be destroyed, together with all technical drawings for constructing these sophisticated boats. He is a great hero.

I’m glad to see those western ignorants brought up the Uyghur card again, 1st of all, the modern concept of country is a new creation sometime around the ending of WW1, that’s when they first came up with the idea what every ethic group should form a ethnically managed independent country , in order to resolve the chaotic conflict within Europe, countries like Germany, France, Greece ,Romania, and Scotland-Wales-England within the UK etc. the number of countries suddenly went up twice as many. The second kind of country is political countries, thus a country where people accept a common value and political system, like the the US, Australia, Canada and other new immigrant countries. Importantly there is a third kind of country which represented by the ancient civilizations like China, India, and etc, where multiracial environment was conducted, these countries formed based on culture realization, despite all deference’s once you except our culture and wisdoms, you become one of us. China wasn’t and will never be a racial country but a cultural country like what Martin Jacques said. 2ndly, the term of Chinese contains all 1.4b ppl from 56 ethnic groups, the majority of Uyghur is peaceful and beautiful, but like all the other racial and political groups, there are separatists, what all the Chinese are against. The western dicks have managed to manipulate and brainwash people with their so called free media, and managed to make every simple fact complex and make everything about them. the world isn’t spinning around you, and every civilization has their own values, force others to accept yours is barbaric and brutal selfish act, it’s 21st Century a time for you to learn some respect.
