i used to play competitive pokemon back in the diamond / pearl / plat days, before showdown existed. there was a local card shop that had pokemon days and me and my buddies would build our team for the week and try it out at the card shop. Our own pokemon league was not 'official' so you wouldn't have seen me at the official tourneys that you had to fly out for or whatever but it was a good time all around lol

Tbh I feel like going second or third is the best positioning, with third being the absolute best. You have two people locked into their positions and only one person to worry about after you, that you can also screw over on your turn in various ways. First and last suuuuuuuuck, though last sucks slightly less bc you can set the tone for the whole next turn cycle.

If you complete the game at speedrun speed and spend eight hours per day playing, seven days a week, for an entire year, there's a 71% you'll get the once-per-game pokemon with 0 in two specific IVs. If you can only beat the game once a day instead of twice, the odds of finding the perfect IV mon in that time drop to 35%. Now bear in mind that new pokemon games come out ever year and a half or so. If you made playing the game your full time job plus overtime, it still wouldn't be a guarantee that you could catch one with the right random numbers within a game's life cycle.

i think many of these minigames are so laughably lopsided/easy/bad that adding gentleman rules to some would make them far more engaging. off the top of my head, the ideas that have already been tried out of curiosity: the 3 in arch rivals playing with their mouths or everyone in the boulder minigame playing with their eyes closed, no jump, or mashing jump. not sure how theyd feel about the idea because other than agreeing to make chance time actually random, i think they tend to want to play as-is
