I really feel for Everson Walls. He had two interceptions in the '81 NFC championship game and the Cowboy defense had 6 turnovers on the 49ers. LC your approach on chosing the best defensive players for your scheme was spot on. Harris to some was a headhunter. To me he was a legendary and intelligent player who converged to his target with a purpose. 1. No one gets a catch for free. 2. Pain has a unique way of reminding us all " there's more to come" if you repeat your actions. 3. Every action in life has an equal and opposite reaction. A rule that when ignored has a definite impact on the naive individual. My homework today, is to catch up with a couple of videos I missed due to work. Thanks for mentioning Thomas Everett. We played (and lost) to the smaller school Daingerfield Tigers team he starred for in high school. In 1982 he hit our starting QB so hard it put him in hospital and he almost died from a punctured lung. (Needless to say we lost him for the year.) Even *scarier* the next year, sans Everett, Daingerfield went 16-0 and easily won State3A title after allowing only 8 points (eight) all season long. And 6 of those were against our 4A District Champion that year and the other two on an *intentional* safety while mopping up the floor with us 35-2. Think of it. Only 8 points in 16 games all of them against larger schools and 2 of them optional.

Great video, and I get what you are going for here…….but I’ve always had this thing with Deon sanders. Yes, he is one of the greatest, yes I see why he would be on this “best defense team”……but I’ve never really considered him a “real” cowboy…..but more like a hired hand, or mercenary. His time was split with several teams and any of them could claim him too. Maybe I’m being difficult here, but the most endearing players on this team to me, are the ones that spent the majority of their career with Dallas.

Landry showed up at a party honoring Henderson's 10 years of sobriety unexpectedly. He told Thomas and the audience that he handled him wrong & then remarked that Dallas could have won several more SBs if Henderson had remained with the team. Dallas didn't have a big playmaker at the LB spot during those painful NFC title game losses from 1980-1982. Hollywood probably would/could have made a big difference in those games

@@thelogicalcowboy I always appreciate your videos my friend. That they would be a penalty in today’s game shows just how much the game has changed. It’s easy for people to just compare touchdown/interception ratio with today and yesterday’s QBs without acknowledging how much more protection has been given to QB’s over the years. In the 1960’s and 1970’s QBs and WRs had to fade a lot of injuries. I personally liked the heavy hitting but understand if it is to protect the players long term health then so be it. Keep it up !!

Good list. I think Larry Brown was vastly underrated. Especially for being a 12th round pick. His was another career destroyed by free agency. Jeff Pearlman listed him as one of the 100 worst players in NFL history. A moronic position. You can’t claim that a 12th round pick who was a five year starter for a 3 time super bowl champion was horrible. He had an amazing 1995 regular season including TWO pick sixes in different games against the Eagles. He had 6 picks during the regular season and then his amazing playoff run including the Super Bowl. I think Dallas had the perfect corners for them. Larry never should have left. Russell Maryland didn’t want to either. Unfortunately Dallas couldn’t afford either with so much money tied up in Deion and Haley. Jeff Pearlman was just making one of those absurd “hot takes” to sound intelligent. Former Cowboys first round pick Rod Hill was a far worse player than Brown and a Huuuge disappointment. There’s no way he shouldn’t be on that list instead of Brown.
