He is the 2nd-highest scoring left winger in NHL history behind Ovie… he def put way too many players from recent years and not enough legends from the 80s/90s who went very low in the draft…

Seems to have a lot of recency bias and amazing players were forgotten here… Anaheim (Vatanen) - Troy Terry is still early in his career but seems like a much bigger steal already. Buffalo (Pominville) - Not sure how Mogilny can be forgotten for Buffalo. Amazing player and drafted in 5th round. Calgary (Gaudreau) - Decent pick, but with Brett Hull (6th round) and Theoren Fleury (8th round)...I'd have picked one of those. Chicago (Byfuglien) - Not sure how players like Steve Larmer can be passed over here. Detroit (Datsyuk) - Amazing player...hard to chose though as they had lots of amazing steals in Federov, Lidstrom and Zetterberg... Edmonton (Horcoff) - my god...this one is bad. When you pick Mark Messier in 3rd round Jari Kurri and Glen Henderson in 4th round...and you pick Horcoff as the biggest steal.. Los Angeles (Quick) - Good goalie, but Luc Robitaille in 9th round seems like a bigger steal. Minnesota (Haula) - Kaprizov in 5th round and in terms of impact seems already miles ahead of Haula. Montreal (Gallagher) - Markov in 6th round. Or while not as late…Chelios and Robinson were steals too I would say and much more important players. NY Islanders (Lee) - Good player but Trottier in 2nd round and Chara in 3rd would have been bigger steals to me for the impact the had in the league. Pittsburgh (Letang) - Excellent player, but I’d have given the edge to Mark Recchi who was picked even further. St Louis (Backes) - Doug Gilmour in 7th round…nothing else needs to be said here. Tampa Bay (Richards) - Good, but Kucherov will surely be viewed as the bigger steal once his career his over. Washington (Holtby) - Bondra in 8th round seems like a bigger steal to me.

For the Canes, I would actually say Slavin over Faulk. Slavin was the 120th pick of the 2012 draft, and he has been nothing but a defensive stud for the Canes. He is the reason why players like Dougie and Burns can be more aggressive on the offensive end because the Canes know he can cover. Not to mention, he just passed the franchise (Whaler and Canes) assist record for a defenseman.

There are better selections, especially with LA. LA's biggest steal by a significant margin was HOF'er Luc Robitaille who is in the 700 goal club.. He was one of the biggest steals - not just for LA - but in draft history... As a Hawks fan, Byfuglien is a "recent" steal - however the Hawks also drafted Dominik Hasek in the 6th round of the 1984 Draft.. Of course the only reason why Hasek was drafted in the 6th round was because of the Soviet Union, so it would be unfair to call him (or any Soviet drafted pre-1991) a "steal" considering it was a risky move to draft a Soviet before the Soviet Union collapsed because the odds of a Soviet coming to the NHL at the time were slim to none which is why all of these Soviet superstars and HOF'ers were taken so late in the draft pre-1991.. It seems for some reason a lot of younger hockey fans don't know this, so they assume all of these Soviet HOF'ers "just happened to turn into superstars over night" - that - or there was some sort of anti-Russian prejudice - when the reality is that the Soviets from that era be it Hasek, Bure, Federov, Makarov etc were literally trapped in the Soviet Union.. I mean the Buffalo Sabres had to literally "smuggle" Alexander Mogilney out of the Soviet Union, lol... So indeed scouts and GM's were aware of how talented some of these Soviet players were, they just didn't want to waste a top pick on a kid that would probably never come to North America. Of course that all changed in 1991 when the Soviet Union fell and all of those late round Soviet picks started paying off. Also, almost every draft has a surprise or two in the later rounds. I mean if you can get full-time NHL talent outside of the 3rd Round I would consider that a "steal" and a successful pick.

I agree with the previous commenters. Huala was a fantastic player and one of the rare non-Minnesotans to play for the Gophers in college. Getting one of the current top 5 NHLers in the 5th round is a steal. Perhaps your assessment factored in the challenge and patience the team had to endure to wait-out his KHL contract and the fact that he really can't go back there anymore. But "The Thrill" is the team's best ever player taken in the 5th round way back when.

Hmm, I might have chose Marchand for Bruins. Bergy is way better and should have been a firstrounder, but aftee all, most projected Marchand to be a role player.

Come on now, I wouldn't call a second round draft pick who perform a draft steal... second round draft picks are expected to perform. A draft steal is a guy drafted in the latest rounds who played some good years in the NHL because those picks are supposed to be at best AHL/ECHL players for a couple of seasons. Luc Robitaille or Theoren Fleury are draft steal... Patrice Bergeron not so much.
