The Canucks trade for the Sedins is a close one between this and the Markus Naslund trade

For Vancouver a strong runner up is the JT miller trade as we got a 100 point guy for what is maybe a 3rd pair Dman

Iginla for Nieuwendyk was pretty fair. I think the Flames getting Kiprusoff for a second rounder was a better deal.

The Canucks best trade is debatable. There is the Sedin trade yes but you could also argue the Luongo trade. The Canucks don’t get to the 2011 final without him. Naslund for Stojanov was also a very lopsided trade.

Too many awards are purely subjective. They are there to keep fan interest when there are no games being played. Many great performances have been snubbed. Ron Ellis died today. Stanley cup winner. Played all 8 games for Canada in 72. He was a plus 3 in that tournament, which was better than Phil Esposito. Being a quality hockey player isn't enough. You gotta score highlight reel goals to get some attention, like Erik Karlson who is -99 career as a defenseman.

As a STARZ fan I gotta say I would trade Jerome 10 out of 10 times as long as it means we win the Stanley Cup

Quick Eichel update: Eichel has since won the Stanley Cup and Buffalo continues to whine and complain about a 25 year old legitimate goal.

I’d Argue Alek Stojanov for Markus Naslund would be the best trade in Canucks history. The Sedin trade was unbelievable, however gave up good players to accomplish it. Stojanov played 45 games for Pittsburgh ending his NHL career and started playing in the IHL & AHL following the trade while Naslund played 884 games with Van scoring 346 goals and 756 points.

The Gretzky trade was a win-win for both Edmonton and Los Angeles for another reason: Edmonton proved in 1990 they could win a Stanley Cup without Gretzky. It was also a win-win for the league itself, because without that trade, there is no NHL hockey in Anaheim, San Jose, Miami, Tampa, Raleigh, Dallas, Nashville or Las Vegas.

For me it’s the Stanley cup game that Calgary flames clearly scored the winning goal, only for the reff to call it back and the surprise, Brett hull scored and Calgary lost. Replays all show the puck was in and the ref ignored it. Some say to give Brett a cup before he retires. That’s about the same time I noticed hockey is political and not played by the talent of the players. Betman has all but ruined the sport

A funny detail about the Canadiens trade : in January 1971, the Seals were last in the standings, but only five points behind the second to last Kings. To ensure the Seals would finish last, the Canadiens gave away Ralph Backstrom to the Kings in return for Gord Labossiere, Ray Fortin and future considerations. In the Kings' final 33 games of the season, Backstrom scored 27 points, including 14 goals. The Kings finished the season with 63 points, 18 ahead of the Seals.

Arizona was the Selanne trade not Briere, Montreal was Roy as good as McDonough was, preds was Weber as Suban just wasn’t the same outside Montreal, Detroit likely worst was trading Dionne to kings, St. Louis lost Rod the bod yeah but they gave up Pronger for Brewer and 2 failed prospects, Flurey was bad but a 1rst, 2nd 3rd for Tatar who they had to give away was worse.
@_FROSTY_

there has been some great and awful trades in montreal...but the Pacioretty for Tatar and Suzuki + a 2nd rounder was clutch. Also the Subban for Weber was awesome and so was Bobby Smith. But like I said...there were some bad moves like Roy, Chelios, Mcdonaugh, Sergachev. etc.. the Roy one was the worst. Set the habs back 20+ yrs to recoup from it.

I grew up playing ice hockey with Kelly Kisio’s kids. The Belmont Rangers lol. I went to home games and sat in the wives room. I saw Pat Falloon’s dick walking around the locker room when I was 11. I worked at the San Jose Arena as an usher when I was a teenager. Literally just stood there watching the games. The Hard Knock Life Tour came through. That was tight. Owen Nolan and them boys gave us some competitive years. Big Joe and Patty did as well. Since then we’ve been toiling around in NHL purgatory. I moved to Jersey. I don’t think half the East coast knows this team even exists! We finally got a number one pick. We FINALLY have SOMETHING to be excited about. His dad works for the Dubs. He played for our junior team. Dude is skilled af. Puts up points like butter. He wanted to be here! Let's gooo! 🙌🙌🙌

Wrong on the Caps one. The trade that brought Rod Langway to Washington is still the most important trade in team history. Back then, the Caps were bad and DC was in danger of losing the team. The Langway trade stabilized the franchise and they became competitive and it kept them in DC. No other trade comes close because there would be no Caps in DC today without that trade. The Oshie trade was another good one but the Langway trade is easily the pick here. Ask any Cap fan and they will tell you this.

in a complete shock to the entire city of Philadelphia and especially after their deep run in 2010. the flyers sent jeff carter to the blue jackets for jake voracheck and a first rounder where the flyers selected sean couturier. carter immediately demaned a trade out of Columbus and didnt want to even be on the ice for them. and the flyers got 2 cornerstone pieces in their core for years and coots becoming their eventual captain. the flyers also traded mike richards to the king for the rights to brayden schenn and wayne simmonds. just days apart. carter and richards were apparent party animals and were constantly late to practice, tried to sleep with other players wives, and had substance abuse issues. so something had to be done. richards did win the cup with the kings but succumbed to his demons and was never the same player. carter had a lengthy career and retired this season.

I think the flyers most disappointing player has too be Carter hart..I don’t think you could be anymore disappointed in a player than him..when he was arrested he was probably a top five goalie in the nhl .after being arrested the flyers goaltending might have been one of the worst in the nhl

What do you mean, nobody knew about Selanne? He won the Calder trophy in 1992, smashing the rookie scoring record by 23 points, and had scored 147 goals in his first 230 games. Everyone knew he was a star, and the Jets only traded him because they couldn't afford him, Tkachuk, and Zhamnov.
