There is not enough time that I can talk about all the hits of this duo. From The O'Jays, The Jones Girls, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Patti LaBelle, Billy Paul and the list goes on... They are the biggest inspiration for Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis... but these dudes were AWESOME!

Mr. Kenneth Gamble and Mr. Leon Huff were two (2) greats in the musical game. Thanks, WBPTV for showcasing these two (2) Philadelphia International Records giants. 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼 When it comes to songs, by these two, I'll say all! They produced and wrote many, Many, MANY cuts. Detroit and Philly both produced great music. Detroit just made the world take notice first.

Now THESE GUYS were the perquisite to Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and LA Reid & Babyface. They had a distinguished sound, wrote memorable lyrics (well...perhaps McFadden & Whitehead could/should be credited), racked up hit after hit, and turned artists into superstars. They were the duo you could bet on.

Gamble & Huff are 2 of the greatest song writers and producers of all time. Even my personal favorite music producers of all time, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, hold Gamble and Huff in high regard. I don't have an actual favorite song by Gamble and Huff, as they have written so many great songs. Some of my favorite songs by them are: "Backstabbers", "If You Don't Know Me By Now", "Enjoy Yourself", "Wake Up Everybody", "Get Up, Get Down, Get Funky, Get Loose", and "Close The Door"! I believe that Detroit produced the best music, overall. But Philly was right there with Motown, especially in the 70's!

Motown for the international. Philadelphia International for the people. Both music royalty. Mr. Huff and Gamble rolled up their sleeves everyday and worked. The African American/Black community should do more to bring their names to the blueprint of what is right.

Motown was still great in the early 70s... But when Berry Gordy produced the Diana Ross movies Lady Sings the Blues and Mahogany, he fell in love with Hollywood and he lost interest in Motown ! He moved Motown to LA and that was the beginning of the end ! Plus Norman Whitfield was fighting with the Temptations and when he left Motown... The Temptations never had another hit ! But Norman Whitfield kept putting out hits like his iconic songs for Rose Royce ! And the soundtrack hit Car Wash for the movie Car Wash... So Berry Gordy preferred the glamour of Hollywood over the grind of the music business... He's still living in Beverly Hills today !

If they aren't already, Gamble and Huff should be in the music history books! Their songs are timeless. It's tough to pick a favorite, but If I were to pick 2, it would be HM & The Blue Notes' (featuring TP & Sharon Paige) " You Know How to Make Feel So Good" and TP's "Come Go With Me".

Talk about diverse! These men did it all - soul, jazz. I bought Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes album not for If You Don’t Know Me By Now, but for Be For Real. I believe that if Phyllis Hyman had lived, she would’ve soared under their label. Did anyone ever read the book “A House On Fire: The Rise and Fall of Philadelphia International Records”? I was in Philly earlier this month. It was my first time visiting, and wanted to see Philadelphia International Records. To my disappointment, it no longer exists, as a museum, that is.
