William Edmondson Philip’s is referred to as the “Macedonian Phalanx”. I’m not sure how it differs from a traditional phalanx, but I know they are considered two separate formations.
@stunseed8385
@stunseed8385 3 жыл бұрын
Traditional phalanx is more a less a shield wall with the front rank using a thrusting spear to attack whatever is front whenever possible. Ranks in the back would push the ranks in the front to give the phalanx some 'pushing power' to break opposing formations. Macedonian uses long pikes i.e sarissas, to form a wall of spears. The 13-20 ft pikes makes getting close for melee a monumental task, and unlike the traditional phalanx, the ranks in the back can also overlap their pikes as well, so multiple ranks can poke at the enemy. While I doubt the thrusting power of a pike is that lethal, given the length, but i can imagine it's very good at pushing enemy lines back or at least keep them in place while Alexander would circle around with his cavalry, and destroy the enemies from the flank, or back. Classic hammer and anvil.

He usually just gets presented as a minor player in the Three Kingdoms (which, you know, he was) but it would be fun to tell his story from his perspective. Plus, I love how he meets his end. And follow it with this story The Atrahasis is the Akkadian/Babylonian epic of the Great Flood sent by the gods to destroy human life. Only the good man, Atrahasis (his name translates as `exceedingly wise’) was warned of the impending deluge by the god Enki (also known as Ea) who instructed him to build an ark to save himself. Atrahasis heeded the words of the god, loaded two of every kind of animal into the ark, and so preserved life on earth. Utnapishtim was first. there is also a third Mesopotamian flood story.

Comment for algorithm. Loved the video. I have two small things I’d like to request in the future: 1. Make the intro slightly lower in sound. 2. If you could show the sources so we can read up ourselves that would be great :)

@nikolai bahtin Is the first alleged witness necessarily closer to the truth? You'd make a bad cop. Man 1: "Officer! The Jew created the fire!" You: "You must be telling the truth because yours is the first account of this event." Jew: "Sir! Don't let him escape! He scapegoated me, and started the fire himself!" You: "Your story's veracity doesn't exist but his does."

Also, we need to establish dates for both, but that hasn't happened. Dating such old things is as reliable as the claim that eggs will decay at a natural rate in a washing machine on for a week.

@nikolai bahtin You equivocated instead of answering the simple question. If you say it depends on the case, then the answer is "no." So why not just say so? You also did not prove that Egypt had its empire in the Levant at the time of the Exodus. Circular reasoning.
