Best side bit of kroot lore in my opinion. Is the fact that they kept eating Catachan jungle warriors, and after eating enough of them the kroot who did started wearing red bandanas and refused to follow orders from higher ups. Thus the Tau told them no more eating the jungle people

tbh, my only gripe with GW's handling of the Tau - both lorewise and balancewise - is how little they've really done with the original idea of "a hodgepodge alliance/empire of aliens...but the Tau are on top and don't you DARE question that". The Tau have, what, 2 alien races in their army book? Kroot and Vespid. And I guess you could run allied IG as Gue'Vesa. But the list of allied races is at lrast 10 times that! It really misses the whole point of the race - both the good and the bad - that they're a notionally communistic alliance but in reality they're a Tau supremacist ethnonationalist empire whwre everyone else is brainwashed and gaslit into being second class citizens. And the only positive they have going for them is "at least we're better than the Empire". Like, it makes the whole setting MORE grimdark that the most optimistic race is only a few steps away from being an empire that might exist here on earth today but would still be considered a shit place to live. Also, in terms of balancing the codex, the fact that their whole thing is "lots of Tau guns" means that their shooty units have to be balanced on the knife edge of "this army wins in the first 3 shooting phases" and "this army loses if those first 3 shooting phases didn't go so well". If GW introduced more aliens who could point a sharp object correctly they could tone down the feast/famine issue with the codex.

I love my Xenos, the Kroot won me over with that Kill Team box and since then I played a modded Rimworld playthrough with a colony of cannibal Kroot who would just straight up eat whoever fucked with them, most times that meant Drukhari and Orks, we were eating good!

How far could the Kroot push their ability to absorb the traits of other species. Imagine Kroot who ate species from death worlds, and became 20ft tall death lizards that shrug off hits from a tank before throwing one 50 feet into some poor guardsmen.

They do do that, they're called greater knarlocs. The basic kroot carnivore seems to be the only really sentient variant of the species, because they eat primarily sentient beings' flesh which in 40k is mostly humanoid.

Well the Eldar are pissed scared of the Kroot because they suspect that if they eat enough Eldar they will develop Psyker potential on par with the Eldar without Slaanesh weakening them. That would mean Kroot who eat a bunch of Eldar could probably fight Primarchs and win.

The Kroot remind me a little bit of the Predators from the Predator movies, but their tribal side sticks out way more and they really are unique. Their getting a lot now but it still won't be a whole lot. However, the fact that GW is going out of their way to do this for the Kroot is amazing... and maybe they're mite more in store for the Tau Empire.

Last year I was fortunate enough to get the OG metal Prok mini. It needed a weeks worth of bathing in paint remover, but managed to scrub it up and paint him in the same style as he appeared in the original codex. He will be my War Shaper when the new codex comes out, as he should.

When I was a kid, 25 ish years ago would go over my friends house and his dad had the entire basement turned into a few tables his painting station and all things warhammer. Looking at his period correct top tier painting and game tables like you’d see in a white dwarf magazine made me want warhammer after a long time convinced my mom to take me yo nearest games workshop and left with a box of kroot they were also the beginning of my warhammer adventure

Best guess is that since their reproduction centers around their mouths (and hands and backs but we don't need to go that into detail) they don't really have any genitals or lower orifices to be ashamed of. It's like how you don't usually see robots wearing clothes.

The Kroot have always fascinated me. I had planned to start a Kroot mercenary army ages ago when they got their own WD codex. But that was when I was just a teenager without any money. I wish the Knarloc riders were still available. Either way, I'll definitely build at least a small Kroot force one day.

Kroot are one of those so underutilised, often kitbashed factions, that One Page Rules made an army just for them. The Jackal's are less creative than the kroot, but anyone wanting to play a Kroot themed army, in a game that won't charge you an arm and a leg for the rules alone, should give them a look. No Exodites though... Maybe one day...

Technically the Imperium can, if you have the money anyone can hire Kroot mercenaries, even the Imperium. Also Kroot do not fight Tyranids unless they absolutely have to. They aren't exactly in the mood to get turned into Genestealers by eating Tyranid flesh.

Upon seeing the beautiful art or a Guardsman & kroot locked in melee, I think an average kroot can out do the average human in a physical confrontation. Their muscle build is described as being really something else in the first tau codex. And look at them! They can rip and tear meat with claw and beak, a human needs a sharp rock to even get close to that base carnage!
