The Greatest Lions Super Rugby Team of All Time

A couple of weeks ago we uploaded a video on the greatest Bulls team to play Super Rugby. This week its the Lions' turn.
The Lions have always been a team that were either great of very poor. But when they were at their peak, they produced numerous Springboks and played a very attractive brand of rugby.
This selection of players is purely based on our own opinion and will include players who played for the Cats in Super Rugby while contracted to the Lions.

Combrinck could've had a solid Springbok career...those back to back injuries of his happened at thee worst time. I'll never forget what he did for us vs Ireland. We would've never heard the last of the Irish had they won that tour

Man the Lions had a brilliant line-up in the late 2010's. I'd love Kwagga Smith in there but I wouldn't be able to put aside any of the back rower you selected.

@Real Rugby, enjoying your videos mate, but what do think about this ... ATT: the real lions of all time.. 1. Balie Swart (could easily play on both sides in the front row, classic prop, just scrum and doing donkey work) 2. Malcolm Marx (the best hooker in the world for quiet some time now... need I say more?...nah!) 3.Willie Meyer (he was one of my heroes growing up, him and Cobus are the reason why I moved from loosehead to tighthead, he could scrum and seemed to enjoy taking the ball up) 4. Kobus Wiese (kobus was tough, I rate him highly, no nonsense bruiser) 5. Franco Mostert (we've all heard about his work rate, and yes indeed he's world class, I like him, he's good) 6. Francois Pienaar (I reckon his leadership role/qualities overshadowed his playing ability, but he was a very useful loosie, world class in my books) 7. Joe van Niekerk ( BIG JOE, we all know him, world class, wasn't a bad openside either) 8. Andre Vos ( this guy retired too early from test rugby, he could cover 6,7 and 8, massive work rate, not flashy like Skinstad, but he could truck the ball up, and on defence he hit hard, world class) 9. Faf de Klerk (people may say he's become a kicking annoyance, but this guys is a genius, he's not too far behind the legends Joost and Fourie) 10. Elton Jantjies (internationally underrated, but he's a very good 10, his lions career says it all) 11. Dean Hall ( I watched him play, he was very physical, he was a very handy left wing) 12. Hennie le Roux ( was rated very highly by many, the few matches I watched him play, he wasn't too bad) 13. Jaque Fourie (springbok legend...! ) 14. Ashwin Willemse (when fully fit he was just awesome to watch, sadly the injuries spoiled his very promising career) 15. Thinus Delport (he was awesome on the counter attack, I reckon he was similar to Andre Joubert, he was good) 16. James Dalton (the bullet was world class, but Marx is just a unstoppable freak) 17. Lawrence Sephaka (could hold his own in the scrum, but had a hard time facing the likes of Visagie and Somerville at times, but he was alright) 18. Julian Redelinghuys (he could scrum, boy oh boy, he was a real deal tighthead, not even Owen Franks ever gave the beast a hard time, but this 100 kilogram tighthead did) 19. Hannes Strydom (legendary Mark Andrews rated him as one of his toughest opponents, that says a lot) 20. Ricky Januarie (when fit and not overweight, Ricky could win you a rugby game, he was good) 21. Andre Pretorius (not the flashiest 10, but he could win you games with his snap drop goals, not a bad 10 at all) 22. Japie Mulder (I reckon he was most reliable on defence, rarely slipped tackles, and did what was asked of him on attack, nothing too flash, got the job done)

@@RealRugby Andre Pretorius scored more tries than Jantjies. Scored more drop goals than Jantjies. He was better defensively. He was a more accurate goal kicker than Jantjies.

The tackles, tackle succes rate, number of drop goals and kick accuracy you refer to in your comment, can you show me those thats? Would love to see stats like that on all players, it will help me make better videos. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure Skinstad played for the Stormers except for 2003 when he played for the Cats, but he was never contracted to the Lions, so not sure how he can make this list?
