I sincerely agree. The tradition and the pageantry and the history and the love of the game. Very cool. Obviously there are more important things in life than football, but this is downright cool and has a big impact on people’s lives. We do love football in Oklahoma. Blessings moving forward man

I didn't see these, so let me add them to the considerations. Apologies if I missed them. The 4th and 1 Quentin Griffin converted in the 4th quarter of the 2000 Big 12 Championship game against Kansas State. Not particularly flashy or a big gain or anything, but it probably saved what was looking like a big momentum swing towards KSU in a tight game. Also, the touchdown Griffin scored against FSU in the 2000 National Championship game that locked up the win.

I've been a Sooner fan since I was 8 back in 1969. I actually loved to listen to games on the AM Radio in the 70s and, John Brooks was my favourite. I couldn't wait to for OU to score a TD just so I could hear the iconic....JIIIIminy Christmas...TOUCHDOWN....OOOOK...LA...HOMA! I remember each and every one of those plays...minus the Wilkinson years of course...I'm not that bloody old lol. I was in the HS Marching Band from '75-'79 and, I even had the privilege of marching at HT with our Band...plus the many other HS Bands and, the OU Marching Band in the OU Band Day my Freshman and Jr years (I was even 1 of our Drum Majors my Jr yr and the Head Drum Major my Sr yr). All the Bands arrived early on game day to practice alongside the OU Band and, marching on that hallowed turf, in front of a sellout crowd was very special! Sad thing is, we alternated years with the OSU Band Day as well lol. We were there my Soph and Sr years. I've had the joy of going to many games in Norman....saw Bedlam at Stillwater 1 year. Saw OU play Tulsa in Tulsa and, after moving to Missouri in '91 I went to every OU-Mizzou game played in Columbia MO. My Birthday is on Jan 1 and, when the Big8 was still linked with the Orange Bowl, I spent many nights on my Birthday watching OU play in the Orange Bowl! How many fans old enough to remember....remember the year....'79.....when Nebraska beat OU, getting the automatic invite to the Orange Bowl only to end up playing OU again, only this time with OU getting the at-large bid to the game lol. #4 OU got revenge by beating #6 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl!

Jiiiminy Christmas can you believe it!! He was the best.
@mikebridges72942 жыл бұрын
@@trainman42dude yes he was! There was a day, not that long ago actually, when we couldn't watch OU play every Saturday on TV so, we had to listen to them on bloody AM radio lol. I remember once taking my little daughters to a kiddy movie at the cinema, and I carried in my small transistor radio and I listened to the game during the movie lol. I spent many Saturdays during the 70s and 80s listening to radio broadcasts of Sooner games. I loved listening to John Brooks, he truly brought the games to life. There's not much use to radio calls now, unless you are out away from your TV and don't want to wait to watch a replay of the game. However, the great radio callers are better than most of the ones on TV. I'm sure there are those who watch a TV game, turn the volume off, and listen to the radio callers call the game. Maybe I'm wrong then, there is still a need for radio broadcasts lol.

According to the AP/poll era only (1936-present), which I consider the most universal metric since schools and conferences started playing football decades apart from one another*, the NCAA officially recognizes: 1. Alabama 12 2. Notre Dame 8 T3. Oklahoma 7 T3. USC 7 5. Ohio State 6 T6. Miami 5 T6. Nebraska 5 8. Texas 4 In full disclosure, I am not an OU fan myself. Just a huge fan of the college game itself, and a CFB history buff who has way too much useless knowledge about the sport now as a result. *When you began playing football is a huge variable to factor into the equation with CFB. For example, Michigan can only boast of being the winningest program in history because they started playing the game a decade before all the other top 5 winningest programs. The game reached the Southeast last because much of the South remained in disrepair for several decades after the Civil War; thus lacking the infrastructure for the game to reach the region sooner. So, when schools began playing football is a very crucial variable to factor in.
