Howe, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Sawchuk, Kelly, Fedorov, Lindsay, Delvecchio, Abel, Pronovost, Ullman, Black Jack Stewart, Larionov, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Goodfellow...probably the best players primarily known for being Red Wings. Then you have guys who were likely at their best elsewhere, but at least made some impact for the Wings: Dionne, Hasek, Coffey, Hall, Chelios. Then you have "Hall of Very Good" players like Osgood, Konstantinov, Gallant, Ogrodnick, Vernon. Yeah, it's a pretty nice all-time roster. I think only Montreal and Boston could compete with it (maybe Edmonton as well. It doesn't have the same depth, but prime Gretzky, Messier, and Coffey gives you a chance against anyone).

jean marc Giroux if Huberdeau and especially Barkov were half as good as everyone on this channel thinks they are then they would’ve made the playoffs more than once in the last decade. Jokinen’s best teammate most seasons was either Jozef Stumpel or 21 year old Nathan Horton and he made the playoffs once for the panthers too. Current team just puts up empty numbers against crappy teams and always loses close to top teams in the league because their no. 1 line doesn’t match up talent wise with most no. 1 lines in the league.

Lidstrom is my favorite athlete of all time, but it's really tough to argue with Howe. 6 MVPs, led the league in scoring on 6 occasions, an ambidextrous shot , a huge physical presence on the ice, and one of the few players that can challenge Lidstrom in longevity (he not only played 25 seasons with the Wings alone, but he was an All-Star for 22 of them, and his latest MVP came 17 years into his career). Also, had the Conn Smythe existed during his Cup wins, he likely wins '54 and '55 (and he was injured in the '50 semifinals, so it's not his fault for failing to shine in that Cup win).

Totally agreed with you on all of these. Before I watched I did a quick run through predicting each and as a Sabres fan, I thought you might pick Perreault, but I did pick Hasek. Anyway I believe I ended up only missing two teams answers…the Kings (I picked Luc Robitaille but Dionne is a good answer) and Florida (I picked Olli Jokinen). That said, people griping about certain guys (guy arguing for Richard is dumb), and if anything you’d only be able to argue for LaFleur besides Beliveau. Anyway, well done.

@@jonathanmartin8113 Obviously your remark is, on the contrary, pretty darn "ignorant", as: I guarantee that you've not heard the opinions of Mario from "everyone" (*nobody ever said he was a slacker other than you); so that's just a silly remark. Also, as just explained, he WAS NOT "the best"; Gretzky and Orr outshone 66 - now we can start to argue about who follows them in the Pantheon (and Mario would be in the discussion, no doubt). Hey, try reading my remarks, and instead of instantly reacting defensively over them, try thinking about them, and consider what I actually said. And I'll add this, comparing your suggestion: NO ONE EVER said that Mario Lemieux "out-worked" Wayne Gretzky over their careers. EVER. AGAIN: IF Mario had have worked EVERY SHIFT to the effort that 99 did, he well could have been "the best ever"; but effort plays into the equation, no matter what your natural skills are. I hope you can understand that.

@@davideaston6944 wow dude... You do know that before Mario retired the first time (after major back problems and cancer), his ppg was higher than Gretzky, right? He came back a couple of years later to help his newly acquired team to succeed and played great for a guy that took a couple of years off. Then you're gonna say he's a slacker? Then get all defensive when someone calls out your bullshit? Hahaha you're funny guy! Also, I never said that Mario worked harder on the ice. I was disagreeing with you calling him a slacker. And I can assure you that there are players that have "out worked" Gretzky during their respective careers. Gordie Howe comes to mind and well, the actual greatest player, Maurice Richard. I highly doubt that Gretzky would have soldiered on like Maurice did during the 40s and 50s. I'm not discrediting Gretzky whatsoever, I'm just giving credit where it deserves to be given. Without Maurice's hard work, strong values and opinions, determination and perseverance, we wouldn't have had a Lemieux, a Gretzky, a Béliveau, a Crosby, an Orr and even to an extent, a Howe. Richard is the OG superstar of the NHL and he paved the way for making the safety of the players a priority so that players like Gretzky would be able to perform like he did.

These are very good picks but there are a couple I disagree with but I will say that the players you chose would be in 2nd place on my list. I would have Maurice "Rocket" Richard for Montreal over Jean Beliveau and Bobby Hull over Stan Mikita for Chicago. I consider Hull to be one of the top 5 NHL players overall yet he never seems to enter the "super elite status" conversation in the same way that Gretzky, Orr, and Howe always do. He dominated the NHL during the 1960s, winning the Art Ross Trophy three times and the Hart Trophy twice and was the first player to score more than 50 goals, doing it three times, plus he also had a season with 77 goals in the WHA. Stan Mikita did not become a star player until he turned his game around from being a dirty player and a pest into a clean, respected Lady Byng player. Hull was great for most of his career. Also, as a Leafs fan, I am happy that you picked Dave Keon as #1. Did you know that in 2017, to honor the Leafs' 100th anniversary, Keon was chosen as the #1 player in the Top 100 Leafs players of all time? So that was a good pick.

The "no longer current franchises" you mentioned as examples are ALL still current franchises, they just moved. Quebec Nordiques -> Colorado Avalanche Hartford Whalers -> Carolina Hurricanes Winnipeg Jets (original) -> Arizona Coyotes Atlanta Thrashers -> Winnipeg Jets (current incarnation) Colorado Rockies -> New Jersey Devils Atlanta Flames -> Calgary Flames Minnesota North Stars -> Dallas Stars I think that covers all the current teams' moves and re-brands. EDIT: With all that being said, I'd say the picks were all solid picks. For the Canucks I'd personally pick Pavel Bure. The Sedins are amazing, but for pure talent and production when he was with the Canucks, The Russian Rocket was a legit game breaker who did unbelievable things with the puck, and was was the best puck handler for the speeds he'd be typically going at. Back to Back 60 goal seasons to follow up a Rookie of the Year award. He only fell off the 60 goal mark the next season because it was strike shorted and he only had half games to work with and after that suffered a career altering knee injury to a Brian Marchment knee lock (ala Ulf Samuelsson on Cam Neely). If you were to take into account the time when the Avalanche were still in Quebec, then I'd also consider Peter Statsney a strong candidate for their franchise GOAT, though Joe Sakic started his career there when they were at their worst and the next best player 1 year was Michelle Goulet with less then 40 points to Joe's over 100. I'd have personally held the 2 iterations of the Winnipeg Jets as separate franchises though as they actually are. Howerchuck was part of the Jets/Coyotes franchise and had nothing to do with the franchise you attributed him to, though he is a great pick for a GOAT or honorable mention for that franchise, though I'd probably go with Doan overall too. The 2nd coming of the Jets (Thrashers/Jets franchise), though they may hold the same name, is a completely different organization. IMO Howerchuk was a very bad pick since he never played for that organization. How can he be a GOAT for a team he played 0 seconds for? That pick should have been from someone who actually played for them.

Why not add the time with the same Franchise? Sakic played for the same Franchise his whole career, just because the Nordiques moved doesn't make it a different Franchise... Same with both Winnipeg teams, Arizona moved from Winnipeg but it's still the same Franchise history... Same with Atlanta moving to Winnipeg... Hartford to Carolina Minnesota to Dallas... It's odd to just erase what they did for the whole franchise just because they moved locations... No offense meant, it's just my opinion
