Whenever India play Pakistan these 2 nations smell blood. The partition memories, the 3 wars that were fought between these 2 nations, the multiple terror attacks by Pak on India.....it all comes to a boiling point whenever these 2 nations play. Outsiders WILL NEVER understand this. Korbin is right, there is a horrible history and a lot of bad blood to be spilled between these 2 nations. Its almost like a Gladiator sport.

The rivalry in T20 is pretty tense and thrilling tbh!! 2007 WC final, 2021 T20 WC humiliating Loss, 2022 WC match (Greatest T20 ever played) and 2024 WC game was incredibly close..Pakistan is definitely a tough opponent in T20s, In ODIs definitely it's a joke..

No korbin... I dont thinkk that Superbowl come anywhere near the adrenaline rush and the viewrship of an Indian Vs Pakistan cricket match. Very close u can say is World cup Brazil & Argentina. Cz india pak match have different vibe, Different chills and the excitement is on a very different level. Two countries who were once one now tore apart by british and dirty politics and terrorism facing each other, its always a war. I am from india but i must say that I am honoured that i hv witnessed The Rawalpindi Express aka Shoaib Akhtar bowling slmost 100km/hr to The God of cricket aka Sachin Tendulkar. There are multiple reports on how Indian cricket has killed cricket globally, as well as never given a chance for other sports to thrive. No wonder, we would see the upcoming US/UK/UAE national teams full of "Indians" than seeing people from an actually genuinely interested populous. It's not wrong to wish for development. But when a country works as a unit to dominate and eliminate everybody else....it becomes problematic.

India-Pakistan matches generate so much emotion because their teams play against each other very infrequently with long gaps in between. If tournaments and matches between them were held on a regular basis, their supporters would eventually get used to their teams winning and losing against each other and calm down.

Cricket has been around for a long while so an india vs pakistan cricket match is hyped a lot. But that also goes for any other match like hockey or more recently women cricket. There have been videos where the Pakistani public outright say that they need to win the match and don't mind losing the series or the cup or qualifying for the quarter finals. People break TVs or radios if their country does not win. It is equal to if Israel and Palestine play football right now. We still have some kind of bombings that keep happening every now and then in India though a few major ones have happened.

No Rick, no other rivalry comes even remotely close. You know why, because no other rivalry has a baggage of 4 direct wars & a bloody partition, not even Cold War era America & Soviet Union. Also, the sheer scale of fandom takes the cake. Even if entire America & Soviet Union watched Olympics Gymnastics (which they didn't), that would still be lesser number of fans than just those watching in India alone. Even Brazil vs Argentina in football, or Australia vs England in cricket (the Ashes) is a bigger rivalry than America has ever had with any country in any sports And no matter how big & intense club rivalries are, they just can't compete with the scale & intensity of rivalry of 2 nuclear-powered countries with a bloody past. Be it Real Madrid vs Barcelona, Boca Junior vs River Plate, Yankees vs Red Sox, Michigan vs Ohio State (I did my undergrad in the US), etc etc. Rick & his typical uppity & self-aggrandizing American worldview, living in his own little bubble.

The reason countries SHOULD get the credit as well as the individual is because although it was the hardwork and talent of the athlete that won him gold, they were provided the tools to succeed by the country they reside in by building infrastructure, sporting facilities, making sure they receive good funding for the growth of their athletes for years before they win a gold at the Olympics. Now take everything out that the country is providing, do you still think it would be that much easier for the athlete to achieve success? No they can't and that's why we see athletes from 3rd world and developing or underdeveloped countries move to developed nations and train and represent their host country

we care because we get few medals and media, pm,cm, state, announce prize and we indians love to celebrate and are filled with patriotism ....and state/country do provide infrastructure, and spend our tax money .....and people do care when you get few medals here and there compare to abundance medals china, usa get it, and its about we can do it, global presence , and to win and come at the top its hard so yeahhh i do agree the individual has the full right on his achievement we are just culturally different and celebrate everything which is on the global level really in general...as sports as a career choice in india is hard as corruption, lack of resources, taboo, etc etc so the story add upto the emotions and media, bollywood also lays a big part i this emotions...we all love a hardworking underdog story

@padmanarayanan5874 just doesn't make sense ur analogy is based on symbolism of country being assumed as motherland. There is difference between actual mother and the symbolic sense of mother. For example I can perhaps partially agree if u say nature because it is integral part of life cycle but country is a concept humans have made up because we are extremely territorial biologically that is one of the reasons for the existence of borders!! Another example I can give is for me when isro makes an accomplishment most here see it as a win for the country but for me it's always like a win for the science in general. I am not saying my perspective is the right one but that is how my look is into the world. Maybe it is bcs of the books I have read in my childhood, also being a science student could have influenced it. Also does that mean I wouldn't help people of my country if needed, yes I will but not out of patriotic feelings but bcs it's about humanity!! Greatest rivalry bcoz of history,blood,tense,eyeball,politics, and still great competitive games played between each other . None comes close bcoz some have only few of above points but ind vs pak have all points. Although in test and odi before 2004 pakistan dominated india but after that we are far ahead . We played less cricket anyways but from last 12 years only few games are played in multinational tournament not home/away series.

American rivalries dont come close lets be real. Ind pak is border, political, historical divide(partition) literal wars, dispute(kashmir) cultural similarity yet a divide. Religion divide and hatred, ideology divide all that with such magnitude of population on both sides living and breathing a sport such as cricket engrained in its social fabric. People outside the region dont get it. Arg brazil in football and some footballing hatred like albania v serbia come close in football fanaticism even exceed but the magnitude of population and cultural disgust dispite shared history and cultural similarities is unmatched between any 2 entities. I don't call it the greatest because it is in cricket not a sport really letting us express our ideologies. But in terms of magnitude theres nothing like this too.
