Just did my first medium long run in this shoe (8 miles). You nailed it. If you're a pronator, it feels a bit unstable. When I was running on my midfoot and forefoot, the shoe felt great. The upper feels very good, but a bit roomy. It's a great looking shoe. The upper has a unique look, almost futuristic. This shoe is a lot of fun - bouncy and soft. It makes you want to keep pushing it harder. Worth every penny, imo.

Well, here's the review I've been waiting for. I run purely for fun although, of course, like most running enthusiasts, I do want to keep improving and achieve PBs on a steady basis. I've been enjoying the Novablast 3 and the Endorphin Speed 3 for my daily runs but I can already see the Prime X Strung quickly becoming my main shoe. Only thing keeping me from getting it right now is that I'm on a long business/personal trip to Asia and won't return until late this month. I brought the NB3 with me on this trip and it's a pleasure going on some long early morning runs in new environments so I can't complain too much. Well, I have something to look forward to when I get back. I'll order it while I'm still here in Asia so it arrives on the day I arrive home! As for the value quotient, yes, it's certainly not cheap but my previous hobbies were electric guitars and audiophile gear. I still play the guitar and have fine headphones, DACs, amplifiers, and speakers but I decided enough is enough and got back into running that I used to love doing as a teenager. In comparison to high-end electric guitars, tube amps, effects pedals and hi-fi gear, a stable of good running shoes is peanuts in comparison and even my wife approves my growing collection. Haha. What a rabbit hole the audiophile world is. Pretty ridiculous. Running and music (and nature for the trail runs) really go well together. I'd rather be out running with great music and sound than being chained to a gaggle of expensive and heavy gear at home. BTW, Ed, my earbuds of choice for running is the B&O Beoplay EX with Comply foam ear tips. It doesn't make me miss my audiophile gear at home while I'm out running.They are that good. Anyway, thanks, Ed! I was already sold on the Prime X but now you are just making me want to go home ASAP! Cheers!

Well, finally received my Prime X Strung today at the office from a retailer in UK since I couldn't find any in the US. Decided I can't wait and pulled the trigger and I'm sure glad I did since no one seems to have any idea when this will become more widely available in the US. I'm wearing this at the office now and actually went out to the warehouse for some quick short runs on the aisles and feels great. It just may be the most comfortable running shoes I've put on this year although I still need to take it out on some proper long runs. The upper feels great - very comfortable but is on the roomy side around the forefoot, more in volume than in width. That's fine. My foot width is standard but perhaps a tad wide in the forefoot area, so narrower shoes fit tight but I tried some EE sizes with other brands and they tend to be too wide. I guess I'm somewhere in between 8 and 8.5 depending on the shoes from various brands, so I went with 8 on this and it fits perfectly. With Nike and Saucony, I normally go 8.5 but I've found 8 works better for me for Adidas, ASICS, and Hoka. New Balance's sizing is all over the place, so it's tricky getting the right fit with their shoes. I wish the upper was this comfortable on the Adios Pro 3 and Takumi Sen 8. I'd imagine that these models will eventually get this Strung upper. It takes a lot of fidgeting with the laces on both to get a comfortable yet secure lockdown. Both are a bit on the tight side for me in the forefoot area but they still feel good once I get going. The Prime X Strung is a bit on the loose side in the forefoot area but more in volume than width. The mid-foot and heel area fits perfect for me. I would definitely recommend using the runner's knot with the extra lace eyelet to get a more secure lockdown around the ankles. That made a big difference in stability just walking around and doing short runs. This definitely feels like it's more for forefoot and mid-foot strikers but I found that to be the same with AP3 and TS8, which works fine for my running style. I wouldn't want to do agility exercises with this but I don't think stability will be an issue at all for me. And I can also tell that this shoe wants to go at a good brisk pace; it isn't for easy/recovery kind of running at all. I certainly didn't get this with that kind of running in mind. I'm thinking 10+ miles at marathon pace and doing tempo on smooth straight-line tarmac. The Lightstrike Pro midsole foam is on the firmer side compared to foams in shoes from Nike, Saucony, NB, ASICS, and Hoka that I have in my rotation, but I found that I like that more when I want to go faster. Yes, sometimes I like the squishy feel of the ZoomX in the Invincible Run, the FuelCell in NB shoes, the EVA foam in Hoka, etc. but definitely not all the time. I really like the firm responsiveness of the Lightstrike Pro foam and the geometry of the adidas shoes rolls you forward. The foam also softens up somewhat after 10+ miles so it needs some break-in time. Once broken-in, it has the best balance between firm and soft, IMHO. Can't wait to take the Prime X Strung on some long runs this weekend. It already feels like the "Shoe of the Year" for me and perhaps "The Greatest Running Shoes Ever"! 😉
@alexkhan2000 Жыл бұрын
So, after getting home, I could not resist going on a night run with the Prime X Strung donning a head lamp as well as a waist lamp (to be extra safe!) on an unlit fairway tarmac trail that is fairly straight with some mild hills but mostly flat. Wow, what a run. It was just one quick 7-mile run but it was getting late and I had to get back home even though I felt like I could run another 7. My heart and lungs felt like it was an "easy/recovery" kind of run but my pace was brisk and more in the daily training realm if not marathon or a speedier tempo. And I was surprised by how nimble it felt, especially going uphill. When I took the shoes off and started walking around at home, I was also surprised by how fresh my legs felt. They actually felt rejuvenated, although that could also be a psychological thing after the exhilaration I felt. The upper is definitely a bit on the roomy side and I could have laced up tighter around the forefoot and mid-foot area. It also really helps to use the runner's knot with the extra eyelets to get the upper to firmly wrap around your ankles as there isn't any padding or support in the ankle/heel collar. My US size 8 weighed in 8.3 ounces on the right and 8.35 on the left. It's not race shoe light but certainly comparable to most daily trainers although I wouldn't put this shoe in that category. I sure wouldn't mind running in this every day but I'd say the Prime X Strung is for going on long runs at tempo or marathon paces. It's somewhere in between racing shoes and daily trainers - kind of in a category of its very own. Would I race in this? Sure, why not? I'm not going to win any prize money and I won't be breaking any world/national or even local records. But I probably would use another shoe like the Adios Pro 3, VaporFly 2, or the Endorphin Pro 3 that I have in my racing category stable since they are all lighter and a little more stable. But I think I would enjoy running in the Prime X Strung more. It's a more fun shoe than those three which I rate very highly for speed and racing. It's more fun than the Novablast 3, the Endorphin Speed 3, Mach 5, GlideRide 3, Invincible Run 2, and some other easy/recovery shoes I have in my rotation. It is, by far, the most fun running shoe I have ever run in. And running is supposed to be fun, isn't it?

@@EDDBUD Just returned from another 10-mile run so I put in 27 miles total since Friday night. And I want to run in these again later this afternoon. The Prime X Strung may ruin all these other shoes for me. Haha. I have to say, Ed, I value your opinions about running shoes more than anyone else on YT. Just seems your "taste" in them aligns with mine more based on what you like and don't like. For example, I hadn't been too interested in the Adidas shoes based on what I've seen and read from others (and I'm not a fan of Ultraboost), but decided to try them based on your enthusiasm for them and now the Prime X Strung, Adios Pro 3, and Takumi Sen 8 are my favorites that are getting the most miles in my rotation. Also, our shared taste in playing electric guitars and music adds another element of kinship. Cheers!

@@dcjaybam yeah know what you mean! When the first UK 13/13.5/14.5 appeared, the adidas brand manager Nick Roche did seem to imply they were going to do our size generally going forwards but also said not all regions might stock them. This OG one will be the 4th got in a UK 13.5 (Adios Pro 3, Adios 7, Boston 11 are the others) and somebody in the US said had picked up a Takumi Sen 8 which was just a little short for me in a 12.5. Buying these shoes essentially twice isn't helping my bank balance either. And yeah it does seem this Strung one is just a Prime X variant not a Prime X 2 per se.

A shoe so good, it makes “$300/£230 running shoe” start to sound reasonable. I’m around 120 miles in on my original Prime X, and I’m notoriously hard on outsoles, especially on the outer forefoot, yet they basically still look new. Remarkable stuff.

@nubetre, I tend to see significant wear on the outsoles of my shoes after as little as 50K (I must land/take off in a weird way), so I apply ShoeGoo right from the start. It's the only way I can make the outsoles last. I highly recommend it.
@davidlynch90492 жыл бұрын
Bought it and here are my first impressions after 10 km. Unless you are a dead neutral runner, don't buy this shoe. It's like running on tall, narrow mattresses. They have very little stability. I think only mid to forefoot runners will enjoy this shoe with no overpronation issues. The ride is very good but didn't think it was much better than other carbon fiber shoes I have tried. This is subjective, but try before you buy. The upper is a wonder and simply fantastic. It doesn't fit like a glove because it has volume, but not loose either. The lockdown is great without the last loop. But not sure this is for colder weather. Add a warmer pair of socks for light winters, park these if you have a lot of snow. Love the pull tab at the back. You can flip it up to help you get in the shoe, and fold it down for your run. I am old and I like to pull tabs. :) They put suit shoe laces on these and I am not sure why, or at least they look and feel like suit shoe laces. Not a bother, you can easily switch them out. The laces suck. It's not light compared to other carbon super shoes at this price. I would train in this, but better options to race. Lovely shoe, but at the price, I am not sure I would buy this again given the number of options available.

Put 20 more miles in the Prime X Strung over the weekend and now I'm absolutely convinced that this really is "THE GREATEST RUNNING SHOES EVER". 😄The fun factor of these shoes is off the charts and outpaces all my other shoes by a large margin. It's bouncy and lively but still has the right amount of firmness. It's light, fast, and exciting yet smooth and controlled. For its stack height, it's surprisingly agile and nimble. No, I wouldn't play basketball or racquetball in these shoes but you get my drift. And, to top it off, it is super comfortable - no feet aches, blisters, rubbing, etc. after two 10-mile runs. And I'm amazed by how fresh my legs feel afterwards. The bottom of my forefoot feels great after long runs because I'm landing on 40mm+ of foam in the forefoot area instead of around 25~32mm on most of my other shoes. It feels way faster than my daily trainers like the Novablast 3, Endorphin Speed 3, and Mach 5 (and I'm sure will over the Deviate Nitro 2 I have coming). Yes, my dedicated racing shoes are faster and more ideal than the Prime X Strung for races but this is just way more comfortable and fun for long distances. And, no, the PXS does not fit in the easy/recovery category at all because it's just too fun, lively, and exciting to run in for slow running. Yes, you can run slow in this, I suppose, but why? Save the outsole and the foam for days when you feel like going fast and long. The Novablast 3 is becoming more and more like an easy/recovery shoes than a daily trainer for me now - especially after running in this and spending more time with the Speed 3. It's light but I definitely feel the bulky midsole and wide base being a drag when I try to do uptempo stuff. It's bouncy but doesn't propel you forward like this. It feels like you are bouncing more up than forward. I still like the Novablast 3 very much but the PXS is changing my perspective on my other shoes now and my entire rotation. The PXS will be at the front-and-center and everything else will kind of revolve around it. Yes, it really is that good. For me, anyway. I totally get that some people don't or won't like these shoes.

Prime X v1 was fun, but a bit too wobbley for me, and the drop felt a bit... much. Just ordered the Strung in a half size up, since I've noticed that going up even just a half size makes the drop feel less high.

Is it there much of a difference in the ride from the first version? The thing I like about the Strung is that they changed the tongue ,as the first version, it was to thin and all over the place. I loved the first version, but will the change in the upper really make the difference?

It’s more of a container rather than the thinner mesh than the v1. Cornering feels more assured now.

Hi Edd, what wear pattern are you seeing on your shoes? Do you see the same wear pattern on all your shoes, or is it different on the Prime-X or Alpha Fly? I was a toe striker, but I have noticed on Alpha fly that my wear pattern is the left foot outside heal. After 100 miles, I have worn the pad down to the foam really bums me out! Because everything else looks great. I just received my first pair of Prime X based on your recommendation. After looking at the tread, I feel I will have a similar wear problem here as the Alpha fly. But time will tell. Do you feel as fast in the Prime-X as in the Alpha Fly? I have set all my 2022 Personal Best Records in the Alpha Fly. Can't wait to take my Prime-X for a cycle.

Hello - hoping you can help me to know if this shoe or one of two others I have in mind (Asics Gel Nimbus 24 or Hoka Bondi 8) will be best for me as a long run shoe that is forgiving on my no so great knees (the beginnings of arthritis I think from multiple non-running injuries in my early 20's mostly - dumb things I did or tried to do on a snowboard!). I'm 44, and use and like my Pegasus 39's for day to day training. For select long run training and races I have Endorphin Pro 3's that I have also been loving ...but don't want to use them for training long runs so they last long and mostly only get used for races (too pricey to not do that). When I run 15K+, my legs/knees tend to feel pretty rough the rest of the day and much of the next day. I'm therefore looking for a cushy shoe that works best to minimize leg/joint impact and pain and speed up recovery. And because long training runs are usually a modest pace, I'd like something that doesn't require the faster pace ...so maybe not as propulsive of a shoe is needed (which many of the long run shoes seem to do)? The Hoka Bondi 8's and Asics Gel Nimbus 24's sounds like two of the best shoes out there for what I'm looking for - but maybe the Prime X could be a great candidate too? And if it is, does it justify the significant extra cost? I'm in Canada and the Bondi 8's at my local running store are a little above $200 CAD, whereas the Prime X's are a super hefty $330. Thanks for any advice anyone has!
@EDDBUD2 жыл бұрын
Not tried the Bondi. The nimbus is a lower stack yet forgiving shoe. I hear many with knee issues struggle more with high stacks. Perhaps the primex is too much for some.

@@EDDBUD thanks for the advice. I’m lucky enough to own both pairs of shoes and I agree that the Prime X Strung is probably the best shoe I’ve ever run in. I just ran a quick 10km run, interchanging between the Adios Pro 3 and the Prime X, and Prime X is so much more comfortable and propulsive. After running in Adios Pro 3 and changing to the Prime X, the level of comfort is in a different league, it’s the same sensation you get taking off ice skates and putting on trainers. Think I might try my luck in the Prime X’s for the marathon, trade off the stability for extra comfort and bounce which will hopefully save my legs and feet on the day 🤞🏻

I did my first run today in the PX Strung and I'm really disappointed! That shoe is overhyped. If I had to describe it I'd say it feels like a Tempo Next with more stack height and a little bit firmer. I've made the same run yesterday with my AF1 and it was a much more fun and pleasant run. There are lots of leaves and acorn now on my running routes here, that makes it even more difficult to run safely in the PX ... with the AF1 I had no problems yesterday. Sadly adidas does not accept to return used shoes ... I'd send them back if I could. Nike has clearly the better shoe buying and returning policies!
@EDDBUD2 жыл бұрын
Can’t say I agree. But everyone is different.
@jean-phil2 жыл бұрын
same as you Hawaii, personally I really like the Tempo Next and this PX Strung felt firmer a bit, less bouncy/quick and less stable ... and it's more expensive ... and for race day, I will go with AF1 for similar reasons. I'm 135lbs so maybe the bounciness has something to do with my weight. Adios Pro 2 never felt very bouncy to me. I think Takumi Sen 8 felt bouncier somehow.

hi i would like to ask for some clarification if thats okay, im obese and i very much need exercise, with running and jogging being something i would like to start doing, and ive been looking into shoes and i tried some running shoes out in stores, specifically the invincible run 2 and it was amazing in terms of initial impressions, with hope that a higher end model like this adidas one would be even better, but seeing as this is primarily a running shoe, would you say it would be worse than normal shoes for slower pace jogging and walking? im not very in tune with any running terms and norms, so i wanted to know if this is a kind of thing where its amazing for fast running but actually less than comfortable for normal walking, cause if it also made normal walking "easier" considering the softness of the sole i would most definitely buy it, basically let me know if you think its worth going for this shoe if im not already a runner of any kind, and specifically quite the opposite, and might do more walking in it as a daily driver than actual running, also thank you for the great and informative videos!
