All of this drum stuff is finally starting to make sense - and guys, you can't do better than Dr Bob on getting a killer drum sound! Loving this concept and thinking, why just a rim shot, why not a hammer on a nail? 😂 I'm reminded of the story about how Tom Allom sampled dropped trays of cutlery to get the "stomping metal feet" snare layers on "Metal Gods" by Judas Priest. And as I was watching your video on the new impact samples yesterday, what really struck me was how much crust is on your solo'd drum bus. I've been keeping my drums too clean to sound great. Much appreciation for all you do, Doc! ❤

So cool. The rim shot by itself has an annoying click to it, but blended in it's like a snare on stearoids. Thanks so much ss always.

Funny, I had never formalized it like this, but I did notice (accidentally) that a buried rim shot gave a nice crack to the snare. I haven't used that trick much since, but maybe I should audition it more regularly.

Nice - seems like a lot of effects for a seemingly simple addition, but I have to admit the result is very cool. Like a really quick, gated accent. Trying to remember back to my high-school marching band days when the snare drummers would do accent rimshots - I think we just called it a "gak." (Maybe that was just the onomatopoeia.)

Thanks David.

Whats funny in logic drummer there is a snare and stick hit at the same time and it is powerful. I usually go to the other snare. I don't use the logic drums but I might sample the snare and stick hit together and blend it with the real snare. Thanks

I've always wondered, having SPL Transient Designer myself, if it was pretty much what I needed since I've never really tried any others or barely. So given you might have tried more than me, do you find yourself using it a lot or are there other good contenders I'm not aware of?
@BobbyHuff2 жыл бұрын
Its my fav!
@neuroxik2 жыл бұрын
@@BobbyHuff Oh, thanks for answering! I'm now pretty confident when I'm not getting the desired effect it might just be me or the source material, quite reassuring :) I also find myself sometimes using a gate in conjunction when I really want no sustain at all EDIT: p.s.: killer tutorial for that smack effect. I was not a fan of that non-linear verb on the transient (personal taste I guess) but without it and all the rest applied sounded really awesome

Are you using an order version of Cubase? Sounds like your leaving the snares pretty loose...Ever heard of people putting distortion on the snare? Not saturation, but a distortion.

That over compressed “pssttt” sounding snare is horrible. Doesn’t sound like a real snare at all. Not pleasant to the ear at all.
