Mark Edmondson (back in 1976) is still to this day the last Aussie male to win the Australian Open. Since then none of McNamara, Cash, Rafter, Hewitt, Philapoussis, Kyrgios, De Minaur etc could achieve it. Wouldnt feel too bad though, by comparison the last Englishman to win Wimbledon was way back in 1936, Fred Perry, 88 years ago.

Another example where he was beaten by a player who has probably the strongest forehand ever is at the 2007 Australian Open where Fernando Gonzales beat Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
