What happens in between DR1 and DR2 is revealed in a comic book that is available online. After the tank battle Isabella is basically arrested and given a choice to either work for phenotrans or prison and Frank returns home where he suffers trauma and ptsd from the events of DR1. He gets a tv show but it gets cancelled and replaced by Terror is Reality which is the weird game show at the beginning of the game. Chuck Greene (the coop character) is the protagonist of the OG DR2 and he had a wife as well as his daughter katey, Chucke did a lot of motorcross performances and did one in Vegas. At the same time phenotrans started an outbreak there where chucks wife turned and bit katey requiring zombrex every 24 hours. There’s another game called Dead Rising Case Zero which takes place before DR2 but after the Vegas outbreak (Vegas and fortune city are two different places) where you play as chuck and build a bike to escape the small town you end up in. Frank West during this time is meeting up with Rebecca Chang to talk about these outbreaks and figure out what’s going on. In the original DR2 he isn’t actually there until the end of the game or DLC I believe called Case West. DR2 off the record vaguely follows the same story as DR2, so you’re not missing out on much. And if you are playing this for frank west’s story then it might not be worth playing DR3 because he’s not mentioned or seen whatsoever in that game except for like a museum talking about willamette. DR4 does feature Frank west as the protagonist it’s such a shit game that you or anyone else wouldnt be able to follow the story of it

Maybe they had different plans in the beginning but just the way things went and how they tried bringing Frank back in the forth game, they really made it look like Chuck is a side character who got a game made about him.
