Wilt only got a drop in the bucket of what he was truly worth in the game. He got a couple championships and that's all good, but he was involved with a lot of historical moments in NBA BBall too. Competition is a true BBall fan's and player's desire and Wilt was there every year. Love it!!

Your intelligent analysis of early NBA history continues to educate me (I'm 68, but TV coverage was rare in those days outside of major media centers); and, I assume, others interested in the history of the game. It must take substantial effort on your part to find the video footage; thank you for sharing with us.

As a Bulls fan I have the 66-67 Sixers as the greatest team of all time they had the greatest center of all time Wilt Chamberlain they had 2 great midrange shooters in Chet Walker and Hal Greer they had an enforcer Luke Jackson who I would say was the Dennis Rodman of his day Walli Jones and they also had a great bench like the Kangaroo Kid Billy Cunningham who I think would have been the 6th man of the year in 66-67 if the award existed then former all star with the then Syracuse Nationals Larry Costello Matt Guokas Dave Gambee and one of the iron men of the 70s Bob Weiss and most importantly this team beat the most dominant team of the 60s the Boston Celtics

Cunningham was easily the 2nd best player on the team in PER, but only got 26 minutes per game. I know Hondo also came off the bench, but he would still get 35+ minutes. And the following season Hannum still limited his minutes, despite proving himself as a star. I can't help but think that coaching decisions like that is what prevented the Sixers from becoming a dynasty, and why Wilt demanded a trade.

The only flaw in the 1966-67 76ers was the lack of an established third guard. That might be a factor in the regular season but not the postseason, when teams reduce their rotations to eight players. Consider that Wilt routinely played the entire game, and this team required only seven healthy players to win a best-of-seven series. (And four were future HOFers!) That's why I consider the 1966-67 76ers to be the best postseason team ev-er.

I've been a huge Celtics fan since around 1970 or so, and I certainly would rank that '67 Sixers team as one of the greatest of all time. Unfortunately, they get lost amid the decade-long dominance of Russell's Celtics teams and Dr. J's 76ers teams of the late '70s and early '80s. And when people think of Wilt's two titles, they quickly think of his '72 Lakers team first.

By any measure, the Top 5 greatest basketball teams in NBA history are the 1967 76ers, 1972 Lakers, 1986 Celtics, 1987 Lakers, and 1996 Bulls. Considering that the 72 Lakers won it all with a 35 year old Chamberlain and 33 year old West, the 87 Lakers won with a 38 year old Abdul-Jabbar, and the 96 Bulls won with Luc Longley at center...the obvious all-time title match would be a battle between the 67 76ers and the 86 Celtics. It's no coincidence that this series would be decided by the 2 greatest front courts in NBA history. The 67 76ers had the most physically imposing front court in NBA history whereas the 86 Celtics had the most skilled front court. Tough call, but I would go with the 86 Celtics in 7 games.
