The Thymus Thump introduces people to their thymus gland, the master organ of the immune system, and the solution to the mind/body problem, with a commentary on the Greek root--thymos--the middle region between reason and desire.
This TEDxSantaCruz talk is one of 22 surrounding our theme of "Activate" at the third full-day TEDxSantaCruz event held March 8, 2014 at the Hotel Paradox in Santa Cruz, CA. www.tedxsantacr...
Paul Lee is a retired philosopher and theologian, a homeless advocate and author. He is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School and Harvard University (PhD) where he studied with Paul Tillich and learned the meaning of thymos, the Greek word for courage that has been a guiding force for his life. He recently published: There Is A Garden In the Mind, Alan Chadwick and the Organic Movement in California. He is currently reviving his Circle Trail Project which encompasses the west side of Santa Cruz. ecotopia.org/
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

One clarification to add is the thymus is midway between Conscious Self (neck up) and Basic Self (inner child, immune system intelligence, in the gut brain). This is a little clearer on how thymus is the middle ground, the common ground between our lower two selves. It's not just a metaphor. For more see John-Roger's topic of The Three Selves.

I was researching about hyperthymesia and wanted to find the roots for "thymesia" which says "remembering" and from Paul Lee talk, I now can connect how it links between mind and soul.. amazing Paul Lee!!

It also creates a vibration through the body as well. You will sense a tingling in the centre as you tap the thymus gland. Is the t cells and vibration in the middle of the chest...

Hello. I am a note-to-color synesthete and musician. My guess is that the note that resonates with the thymus would be the G. And, of course, it would be maximized if tuned relative to A432 Hz pitch reference. I see G as aquamarine. - _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_

So that’s where Morrison and the Doors got that song. I did not know it was a cover from an opera.

Brecht was as strange a dude as Morrison was. By the way, the thymus is indeed an important organ in that it makes T-cells, but his discussion about a "soul" is delusion.

White people HATE to acknowledge that Socrates is of African descent and it wasn't a big deal for Africans to be in Greece but it's definitely a big deal for white Americans to acknowledge that Socrates was known as a"Mor" and these people are Africans. If you go to Greece today the tour guides will tell you that Greeks are mixed people. They are Persians, they are Italians and they are Africans. They are very proud of their mixed race but white Americans hate to acknowledge that fact and hate to acknowledge the fact about socrates.

Your level of delusion is astonishing to anyone who has graduated elementary school. I guess you cannot have high hopes for a barbarian even after all this time..
