When comicbook movies as a genre were still just a small demographic in a wider variety of movie genres. Mainstream marvel movies really took off after the original blade and xmen movies. Dafoe committed to the film because he knew it would be a box office smash. He knew he was part of something prestigious. From the public’s perspective 2002 was a year in which superheroes had very little stakes in the blockbuster territory but people working inside Hollywood could see the rise and potential of this genre. Twenty years later and comicbook films have dominated the cinematic landscape. Some would say that the market is oversaturated.

Not really, that’s the Joker. Green Goblin wants power and he’ll kill anyone who gets in his way. The point he was making was that fighting until they both die, because he won’t stop until victorious, is pointless compared them joining forces to achieve his goals. I always loved how in the Rami trilogy, Spider-Man and his villains had very comic booky moments like with how over the top the Green Goblin was at times, but also had these very human elements blended into their scenes. It adds so many layers to the Goblin's character and makes some people wonder whether if he's really a mad lunatic or a genius who's outlook on life is very warped. Green Goblin's so crazy that he sings when he's destroying and hurting people, yet at the same time also gives compelling arguments that make the audience question whether he's right and Spider-Man is wrong to try to keep being a hero.

the analogy between goblin’s proposal in Spider-man and Joker’s speech during interrogation in the Dark knight is evident, both dialogues reveal to be not so wrong after all, that does the spectator think, “you and I are not so different” and “you complete me” are the perfect representation of the hero/villain relationship, they do have more in common than what it seems.
@muigokublack6487 Жыл бұрын
Well that was the dynamic. Both had been gifted extraordinary powers but how they used them is what defined them. Norman used his power for his own selfish reasons. Peter used his to help those who could not. And yet it goes deeper than that. Norman by his nature is a jaded individual who only sees the worst in people. A philosophy he points out to Harry during Thanksgiving because that's what he's been surrounded with. People who only want to exploit him and toss him aside when no longer useful hence his line to Peter telling him that the city will eventually hate him and root for his downfall. That's what separates Norman from Peter.

I love the depth behind JJJ's character in this scene. At first, you'd think he's just a scumbag tabloid executive that's only willing to twist the truth every time he speaks, for his own gain. But here, he twisted the truth not for himself, but for Peter's safety. He had nothing to gain from lying to Goblin like this. He easily could have said it was Peter, or he could have thrown the name of his least favorite employee. But no, he went with the extremely directionless answer of "I don't know who he is."
