In the 3D action-comedy The Green Hornet, Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is the son of LA's most prominent and respected media magnate and perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene - until his father (Tom Wilkinson) mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father's more industrious and inventive employees, Kato (Jay Chou), they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. To get close to the criminals, they come up with the perfect cover: they'll pose as criminals themselves. Protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante The Green Hornet as he and Kato hit the streets. And if we do that what’s the point of redoing them? I understand your viewpoint and I would even understand not enjoying the movie if you were a fan of the source material But I thought they did a good job on it.

@@westleystone6577 They didn't have to rehash anything. They just needed to stay true to the traditional tone of the franchise. The 60's series was its own take on the characters, but it nevertheless stayed true to the fundamentals of the Green Hornet. The Green Hornet simply doesn't work unless it's a crime thriller. If you make it a comedy, then it's no longer Green Hornet.

@@westleystone6577 Uhh...yes they would. For the same reason why people still take classic Green Hornet seriously. And Green Hornet is nothing like Batman. Unlike Batman, Green Hornet is not a billionaire, he's not a playboy, he's not brooding, he's very cynical regarding the law, he's a journalist and Kato is more of a partner and brother figure to him than a sidekick. In fact, one of the reasons people hated 2011's Green Hornet is because it deviates so much from the Green Hornet mythos.

I like the fact that this film subverts the whole comic book/superhero tropes. The main character is a selfish idiot who tried to act like Tom Cruise but really has no idea what he’s doing, the sidekick actually does more than him, and he has a parent who’s killed but he really doesn’t give a crap because of how much of a jerk he was. Honestly, I liked that Seth Rogen took a take like this, made it feel fresh. Underrated comedy and comic book film.
