Del (Eduard Delacroix) is a Cajun. The story is set in Louisiana. Del is speaking Cajun French. Percy called Del a slur when he said "French-fried *expletive* " The difference between the girls and Mister Jingles is that he was recently killed. The girls were dead too long to be revived. By the end of the film, Mister Jingles is about 65 years old. The average lifespan of a mouse is 2 years. The backstory on inmate Arlen Bitterbuck , he killed a man in a drunken brawl over a pair of boots. Del SA a woman, then tried to set a fire to cover his crime, but several others died, including two children. Del confided in the guards that his life might have taken a different turn if he met them at a time before he committed the horrible crimes. The scars on John's body symbolizes the stigmata from Christ. I read the book years before the film was made.

I always remember this is a long movie, but I forget it's THAT long. It definitely doesn't feel it. A lot of viewers think of John Coffey as some incarnation of Jesus Christ, but I feel like that's a bit too on the nose. He'd definitely be considered a saint centuries ago (if circumstances in that era were a bit different of course). If you follow the speculation that most of King's stories are within the same universe, John could possibly have the powers of the shining, which then has me wondering what historical figures would have 'shined' in King's fictional world. Although I guess by that logic, even Jesus could have shined. (Keanu voice) Whoa... ANYWAY, good movie, I cry every time.

Paul had a urinary tract infection, not kidney stones. They're separate conditions. And kidney stones (what it sounds like your friend had) are most often caused by dehydration, not what you drink necessarily. So as long as you stay hydrated otherwise, you can still drink soda. It's just when you ONLY drink soda and not water, is when you run into problems. So you don't need to deprive yourself of soda entirely, just drink it in moderation 😉

You're watching a Stephen King film based on one of his books. If you observe carefully, the film, as in the novel, there is significant religious symbolism throughout. John Coffey is the embodiment of Christ. the flying "insects" represents sin, disease, death, and darkness. The large cathedral-like windows over the guards desk floods the green mile with light from heaven. The glow from the movie projector light surrounds John's head like a halo. John is able to recognize the constellations in the night sky. He is one with nature as he holds the earth and grass in his hands. When Paul visits Mr. Hammersmith to inquire about John's arrest and trial, the attorney tells Paul that there was no evidence of John's existence. John had no arrest record or origins. Htells Paul, "It's as if he dropped from the sky. "

1. Most people CRY😭😭 2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie". 3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935 South.) 4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row. 5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (MCD) and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.😭😭 6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse: The Langoliers. Patricia Clarkson played Margarat White in King's remake of Carrie". Needless to say, it was a much different part. 7. Movie magic Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene. 8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill. 9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy. EVERYONE hates him.🤬🤬 10. John also rescues the other patients at Briar Ridge. 11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clarke Duncan.😇 They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography/angles to make John look taller. 12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder, and he brushed it off. 13. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for. 14 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced. the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. (GOAT)🤩 15. Four words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!

Little things like John Coffey‘s initials being JC similar to Jesus Christ another miracle worker walker in the world in dark times who was also murdered. Stephen King really likes to invoke a lot of these religious symbolisms, even though he himself isn’t all that heavily religious.

@@CampCrystalCharlie All of Stephen King’s stories have a lot of Easter eggs in them. Most connect his stories together into a massive over arcing story while others are nods to various historical events, people, or mythologies. If you want another great King story to watch on the channel check out the Shawshank Redemption. It’s a more grounded story without the supernatural but is also equally moving. Stand By Me is another King movie that holds up extremely well decades later.

You kind of just didn’t seem to understand what was going on. You didn’t understand the time. Period. You didn’t understand hardly anything All the stuff should be common knowledge I mean even the Saint Christopher’s metal that John was wearing that after he died you didn’t know what that was. I am I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me but when I grew up, we knew all this stuff. This is all talk to you when you’re in elementary school I mean, even the age of mice mice only live one or two years and then they die so the idea that that mouse is alive for 50 some odd years that right there should be like whoa freak out that gives you an idea of just how long he’s going to keep living after everyone’s deadif a mouse can live 25 to 50 times it’s normal life. How old will he be when he finally dies he’ll probably be thousands of years old.

It would be like you writing a period piece set in the 1980’s. To me that’s not a long time ago but to younger people in their 20’s it feels like ancient history. When I was a kid in the 80’s schools taught history going back to the 1900’s but only really hit on major events. all right...i never saw this movie before, but i always thought it was based on a true story too, or at least was loosely based on stuff that can actually happen, like how george floyd was similar to do the right thing. i never knew it had supernatural stuff to it. this made really think about the unalive penalty. today it's with a needle and the prisoner isn't supposed to feel pain or it's illegal, but i forgot all about the chair back then. people actually sat down and watched that bruh. even if they were guilty and you wanted them to face justice seeing something like that would be traumatic. i call cap on this movie a little bit. if the prison guards saw john do these miracles and told the military, they wouldn't have executed him but used him for their own gain, like healing wounded soldiers in wars or something. they wouldn't let an asset like him be exposed of. but what shocked me the most in this movie is the silver medallion you asked about. it was a st.christopher medallion. in the catholic religion each person that was canonized as a saint represents something, and st.christopher was the patron saint of travelers and children. catholics pray to the specific saint for help, protection or good luck in the area of their lives that they need it in. if you're catholic it's customary to name your child's 1st or middle name after a saint, and my middle name came from him. that's why as a kid he was always my favorite saint. the name itself is greek for "bearer of christ". that's not why seeing it was weird to me though. it's weird because i was watching fear the walking "unalive" last month, and a woman had a st.christopher medallion for protection too, and i thought "maybe i should get one, for the placebo of a good luck charm, not because i believev in it, because i'm not religious anymore", and this is the 2nd time within 30 days that i saw one in a movie or show.

You know, I understand what you mean about The Notebook. I enjoy the occasional Rom-com, but that one just sounds sappy. And not good sappy.

lol I always let it all out. No reason to hide from a movie nothing was here. You can only really develop feelings for the mouse and the guy who sheltered the mouse (forgot his name). We got 0 backstory for JC. Horrible character development. We learned 0 about him except he was magic soooooo how can feel bad for him?
