Hello everyone,
So this is a double bill today! Here is the second video, episode 8 of The Green Odyssey. I am trying to make up for missing Theros Adventures Friday yesterday.
In his video, you meet us and Brigid after a great night's sleep in Sainte Hélène de Bagot, Québec and we mosey along part of the gorgeous Saint Lawrence seaway and then head further east and across the border into New Brunswick, where we stop in Woodstock.

I sadly found this channel only now after I had read the terrible news. Thank god they had this Channel, so at least I can get to know them now. What on earth went wrong on that lifeboat? It seems like there was no chance for GPS, no emergency food and water left on the life boat, no other ship that saw them or stopped to help? It's really heartwrenching.

I’m so sorry to hear today in the news that a 10 foot inflatable raft washed ashore on Sable Island. It is believed to be from the Theros, and the two people on board the raft had sadly passed. :-( This is so sad. :-(

Possible collision by large commercial ship is currently being considered. So far no yacht debris has been found other that their bodies in a life raft.

In fact if you watch a followup video, the main suggestion is either instabity caused by the weighty electric motor/solar panel/battery pack modifications done to their yacht OR the Nissan Leaf Battery Pack malfunctioned resulting in a thermal runaway. Thats food for thought isn't it. Notice I didn't mention your favourite topic you seem worried about. ● Ask that other guy about it, not me.

Let this be a cautionary tale to all who dare to attempt such a fatal trip. God bless them both for trying to do the green/best thing but in the end it wound up taking their lives. My belief is they had a lithium battery fire and had to quickly escape to the life raft but had no cell phone service or flare gun to alert authorities. Salt water and lithium ion batteries are a recipe for disaster.

An electrical/battery fire is one possibility. Another possibility is the vessel was no longer properly balanced due to the heavy modifications that included the elimination of one of the masts, the addition of the exterior solar panel super structure and fiber glass enclosure, and the removal of the diesel engine (and fuel tanks) and its replacement with an electric motor. This imbalance could have caused the vessel to become unstable and capsize in moderate to heavy seas. Yet another possibility is there was a problem with the solar-electrical system and the vessel lost power, or ran out of battery power (it didn't have a backup powerplant) and went adrift, eventually taking on water, and sinking. Of the three possibilities, the likeliest scenarios are either a fast burning electrical/battery fire, or the vessel capsized. In those two instances, they would have had to make very quick escapes to the life raft, without adequate time to grab their "go" bags that included their emergency locator beacons. Otherwise, if the vessel had lost power and went adrift, they would have had plenty of time to properly prepare and grab all their necessary gear, including emergency locator beacons, a few days supply of drinking water, and provisions. Also, no flotsam and/or jetsam from the Theros was reported discovered on Sable Island along with the life raft. A fire may have consumed most everything on board prior to sinking.

RIP to both, they were both wonderful people. Sarah had worked as a humanitarian worked in Rwanda during the calamitous period in 1994. Brett was a passionate believer in renewable technology. Experts say, huge battery weight may have made boat unstable (electric cars are much heavier than gas ones). They are also speculating that it was stuck by a unloaded ship. Another source speculated their sailboat could have been on auto pilot mode. They were in a lift raft washing up on sable island which is 315 km away from Nova Scotia coast. Very sad news.🙏🙏🙏

Apparently, whatever was the on-board emergency, it was both immediate and catastrophic, leaving them no time to grab their "go" bags (waterproof bags that contain emergency gear such as emergency locator beacons.) That leaves me to believe the emergency was likely either a fast-moving electrical/battery fire, or the boat capsized. Otherwise, in a slowly developing crisis, they would have been able to activate their emergency locator beacon, send distress radio calls, and grab their go bags.
