Max is one of those guys who doesn’t need another musician asking questions. He’s so articulate and smart that he can effortlessly tell story after story without prompting, which is as it should be. And he’s never boring. When he led the house band for Conan O’Brien, who I didn’t like too much, I made it a point as often as possible to watch him play into and out of the station breaks. I loved watching and hearing him play the drums. He was hands down my favorite TV show bandleader and drummer.
