Last year I was in a deep hole. I was depressed, overworked, underappreciated, belittled, squashed, and homeless. I even ended up in hospital for having a minor breakdown, buying a bottle of scotch and going for a walk; drank about 90% of it and got hopelessly lost when I collapsed smashing my face on a lamppost, luckily an ambulance happened to be driving past and took me to hospital. This film really helped me in those dark days, I would watch it at least once a week and though it didn't get me out of the hole (that would be achieved much later by other means) watching it gave me an inner peace. Watching Ottway refuse to go down without a fight helped inspire me to keep on swinging away at life. I don't know how many times I said to myself "once more into the fray". I'm in a better place now but I'm still in the process of rebuilding This film will forever have a special place in my heart

To think that I saw this movie on one of the worst days of my life where I felt extremely hopeless and then I see this, from the 1st few minutes I was hooked into it & I don't think I might ever be hopeless again. How is this movie so unknown is what I can't figure out. Oscar worthy movie. "Live & Die on this day" is now forever in my mind.

This movie saved my life. I was in a deep depression after suffering a terrible njury at 20yrs old in the British Army. The injury itself could have killed me (stress fracture to the neck of the femur and bone marrow leaked into my leg). "I've stopped doing this world any real good" was exactly how I felt. And Ottway's father reminds me a lot of my own so my support network was almost nil. (Army gave me no support). One night I had about 5 boxes of very strong painkillers and was going to down a bottle of Jack. It hurt too much to reach the bottle so I gave up. Took one of the pills and went to bed. If yiuve read this far, thank you for listening. If something happens to someone you know, a text or call goes a long way 👍

You don't know how true this is, I did something to my spine in 96 phase2 engineer training , building hgob and not enough people lifted on my side but couldn't let go cos lad next to me was under it something popped but I didn't tell anyone and just sat in Bath for hours an on floor at night and got through last few weeks, been a Major problem since an I had the same thoughts as u and almost exactly same way u planned it apart from a girl in America messaged me, I didn't really know her we played online poker and maybe a month we had talked and at the point of no return I got a message saying "just had a feeling you needed me" She had stopped an just had this uncontrollable feeling I needed her, I had 2 almost magical moments in my life this was one, its still a moment I can't explain, glad ur OK matey

Such a wonderful tribute to one of my favorite films. I like how the editing highlighted something I always found kind of interesting about the film: Ottway begs God (or whatever higher power there is) to show him something real, something tangible, and only a few minutes later he gets the whole moment of walking directly into the wolves den and getting a nearly biblical duel with the alpha wolf plus revelation involving his visions of his dead wife that combined allow him to finally get closure. One could say the higher powers did show him something real and what he needed in his final hours, in a sense. Keep up the great work.

I went to this movie in the cinema with a friend when it came out now knowing what to expect and I was silent the whole movie and we never talked about it again. It is a masterpiece, I hear those lines so much in my mind, and always aware about how short and unpredictable our time now and here is.

My grandfather who was more like i dad to me passed away in march 2020. We had never been big movie watchers other than a couple classics we kept around the house. This was the last if not the only film we watched in a theater together. Me him and my little brother when i was prob 10-14. Anyway the point his im sitting in my room crying while my girlfriend is asleep. Just wishing i could have went and seen another with him. I wish we had went and saw every fucking movie together

You have an issue with the cursing? They are in a brutal survival situation where they are dying one by one in some of the harshest and most realistic portrayals of ways to die in the wilderness that Ive seen in film.

I like this movie no doubt about much like I enjoy Jaws, I can't help but feel guilty though as with Jaws we've made an animal look like a demon. Wolves are not the monsters they have portrayed them to be in The Grey, same as Great White Sharks are not like Jaws.
