How about we stop telling young women that it should be their right to get as drunk as they want and other people should be responsible for them when we ALL know that not only is this not true, but it is also not reality? In no world would I be given any grace for leaving my car unlocked with the key inside and my car got stolen. It is my right to have my possession not stolen but everyone and their dog understands that high risk behaviour leads to undesirable outcomes. But somehow we are now encouraging young girls to not mitigate risks because your friends, the bars, the bouncers and strangers should take care of you? "Your actions are other people's responsibility because we don't victim blame" has become the dumbest and most dangerous slogan of the past few years. If anything, these stories seem to be happening more often. And alcohol-related deaths are increasing for women, faster than for men. So keep up the good job.

It’s not their problem once they are out of the club. Their duty of care is for those inside the club. She should have been smarter and made better decisions. Sneaking into a club, underage drinking, going back to a random guys apartment, talking to another random man on the street, getting into a van with another man she didn’t know. She could have asked the bouncers to go get her bag and phone, or tell her friends and she didn’t. She didn’t even try to get back in.

I agree. I know they aren’t responsible for making sure she’s okay after they kick her out as part of their job, but I feel like it would have been anyone’s moral obligation to at least help her get an Uber or make sure she had her phone with her to call for a ride. I’m sure they deal with stupid drunk people every day, but kicking her to the curb when she was so young and all alone, with none of her belongings is fucked up. It’s also fucked up that the girls she was there with were not concerned whatsoever. They had all of her means of transportation and communication with them. The least they could have done is try calling her family or a different friend to drop her items off with, and actually tell someone that she had disappeared that night. Lastly, I hate that cops don’t take it seriously right when someone goes missing. I understand that It’s hard when the missing person is an adult because they very well could have disappeared intentionally. But given the fact that she was wasted and had no means of communication the night she went missing, and everyone who knew her saying this was unlike her, I think they should have at least made an effort. If they found her and she told them she didn’t want to be found, they could have just told the parents they made contact and that would be that. Unfortunately, in so many cases it’s the 72 hour waiting period that fucks someone over.

What a terrible tragedy. As a father of a 20yo daughter at university, this kind of psycho is every father's bogeyman, but unfortunately, apart from instilling vigilance toward possible threats there's not much more that we can do. As this father illustrated twice,he believed that in no way would she have gotten into a stranger's van and that he was shocked to discover that she was clubbing with the aid of a fake ID. The point that I want to make is that rules and restrictions that you,as a young adult, may have flaunted,it's quite possible that your kids will also,so educate in them all the possible outcomes of their actions and to be vigilant.

Another thing we can do is arm our children with non-lethal weapons, and the more effective the better. Multiple weapons is probably ideal.

There are no such laws. The first 24 hours of a missing person are the most important. So no. This is just laziness by the police. There are No waiting periods if you are concerned for someone’s welfare call and insist calmly and escalate to a senior officer or ask for missing persons unit/detective/section. Don’t take No for an answer.

@@psn2660 I pray I never have to do this. But if I do, like I said, a family member knows. I will never let someone tell me to wait.

Ladies, this tragic case is a warning to limit the amount you drink when you're in public. And no, this does not mean she is at fault in any way. RIP Kenia.

I agree with you,you should be safe in this world, but you have to be on your guard unfortunate!!!!😑🇬🇧

I agree. It is never the drunk woman's fault but that makes them an easy target. I don't drink and i also never date or give my time to men who drink.

And don't go to clubs that are run by bullying, thug bouncers! Go to a class establishment that would either let you back or go with you or go for you, to get your purse! Have S O M E concern for your clients, or do not patronize these establishments! I did a lot of clubbing when I was her age & never had anyone be so heartless that they wouldn't retrieve my purse if I left it.

You’re so right Julie, it doesn’t get spoken about enough, Thanks for spreading the word. I for one will only drink water from now on! I’ll be well hydrated and safe at all times, I wish I’d have came Across your warnings sooner. Only drunk women get r@ped and murdered, how did we not see it? Stay sober and you too could be rewarded with just a vicious SA, a broken jaw, stroke and, eh, being set on fire - just like the second victim in this short video who you’ve apparently forgotten about. While I’ve go you Jules, if women who haven’t seen your groundbreaking research on the number of glasses of wine you recklessly enjoy with other targets (some people call them women) being a direct signal to men they’ve never met that they wish to to be brutally murdered, where can they find more of your top tips to help these poor guys stay out of prison? Any insight on what to do if you walk home sober like a human being in society, you have no idea there’s a young gentleman following you who fancies a bit of murdering, when he attacks you in your doorway, what’s the best way to tell him there’s been a huge misunderstanding, you’re sober and this would be an unprecedented attack as you never gave that stranger the signal, when he’s already broken your jaw? He must have felt so bad when he realized the girl he attacked - who again, then suffered a stroke after hurling herself, naked and ablaze, out of a window to try and avoid excruciating certain death - hadn’t even asked for it via tequila like them other gals. imagine the poor man who had to break the news to him that he messed up, she wasn’t even drunk, and now she’s only gone and lived and this time what he did was wrong - for once, they didn’t deserve it. It was July 4th, There was no doubt so many women in that town on that night who’d drank the rapable amount and just went home and kept being alive, I hope they feel responsible too. Just so many women at fault here, the system failed and now he has to go to prison for executing his god given right to women’s lives and bodies. Again Julie, can’t thank you enough for your advocacy work, few women are brave enough to fight for these rapists rights to viable excuses #Brave

Kenia was a beautiful young woman. I will never understand how one person can do that to another. I am happy that Lydia survived her ordeal, but I can't imagine what life must be like for her, having to live every second of her life dealing with the results of what happened to her. She is truly a courageous woman.

I have always hated the “wait 72 hours before we can let you file a missing persons report.” Especially because there have been so many cases where if they would have allowed the report to be filed when the family first called then a murder could have been stopped from happening.

I've seen this story before. Very sad! The one thing I just never understood, was why the heck did this guy text her phone. If he wouldn't have done that, he may have never gotten caught. They probably would have never come up with him as a suspect. Makes you think he subconsciencaly wanted to get caught. Sick F...!

He couldn't help himself . Part of the thrill for him is watching the reaction of the family and the police investigation. (Also a way to figure out what the police know)

Maybe he was worried about his friend saying something, and he wanted to get ahead of it. He drove a friend home with her, who he dropped off first. Just a guess. Glad he’s behind bars regardless.

The bouncers are perfect examples of how everyone is mortified of getting involved due to liability. How needlessly tragic.
