Randy Bachman wrote this. He got the idea after hearing the Bob Dylan song "Ballad In Plain D" on the radio. It was a very long song, and just as Bachman was about to turn off the radio, Dylan sang the line "She came undone." The lyrics are about a girl Bachman saw at a party who went into a coma after dropping acid.

it may interest you to know that I saw this lineup within the past 10 yrs [ i cannot recall the date and cannot find it online] at the South Shorre Music circus in Cohasset MA. It was a medium size round venue with a cloth tent roof. Many in the audience were my generation who remember this when it was new and probably, like me, had the 45. They closed with Undun. THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE SANG ALONG. The audience even matched the pauses at the end "she's come............[big breath here!]................un duuuuuuuuuuuuuunn! do do do do do do DO!

Not this line-up, which includes Kurt Winter, who died in 1997. That would be quite the feat to have seen him within the past 10 years. Burton Cummings hasn't played with the Guess Who in over 15 years, bordering on 20, as Jim Kale bought the name and Burton doesn't have the rights to it, hence the Bachman -Cummings shows where Burton and Randy played Guess Who songs, but couldn't bill themselves as "The Guess Who". "The Guess Who" that has toured for the last 15 plus years, mostly in the USA, where many people don't realize that nowadays drummer Gary Peterson is the only original band member, have been dubbed "Kale's Clones" by Burton. If you go to Burton's FB page you will see that he has had no connection whatsoever with "The Guess Who" for almost 20 years and considers them to be a cover band.

Have met him on occasion...oddly in a three different places around North America and each time he couldn't have been more friendly and engaged. After the first time I introduced myself to him, told him I was from Winnipeg too (and related a story of an old friend who would talk about Burton dancing on the piano to finish a show - he laughed and remembered it well) we spoke for about 25 minutes. Here is the kicker, he remembered me when I ran into him on the street in Toronto and New York. A true talent and wonderful gentleman.

I'm glad you said they were a gift to the 'era'...and not that they were 'pop' rock themselves. Although, if you want to be technical...pop rock, by *definition* is, rock music enjoyed by a large number of people (therefore, Popular Rock).... So Led Zeppelin was pop rock... The Beatles were pop rock... David Bowie. Black Sabbath. CSNY. Eagles. Rush. The Band.... All of them, and thousands more... 'Pop' Rock. However. By *intent,* 'pop' rock was(is) simple melodies, usually dance oriented tunes(Disco in this era) or gimmick songs (which every era has), all also known as "Bubble Gum". (In some cases Soft Rock/Easy Listening as well) So as I said previously I'm glad you specified "gift to the era". Because The Guess Who couldn't really be called, 'pop' rock, based on that words intent. :-)

I will always remember working as a reporter for CBC Radio in Toronto and being tasked to do a segment on their reunion tour. Pretty sure it was 2001. Being in my 20s then, and realizing I knew virtually every song, I figured I would go to the show and as fans went in, get them to do a singalong with me of different songs. I pulled it into a 4 minute piece which went national. So many songs. Burton's voice! The arrangements -- how could you not sing to all that. Such an awesome memory. So glad you're enjoying Jamel - they are definitely one of the Canadian greats. /d

Wow!! I always thought it was about a relationship getting too deep. I Goggled this: It was written by Randy Bachman after hearing Bob Dylan's "Ballad in Plain D", which included the phrase "she was easily undone". Bachman's song tells the story of a girl he had seen at a party who, after dropping acid, slipped into a coma.

NBC's "The Midnight Special" was a great Friday night show back when all the stations went off the air around midnight. This way we got to listen to new live music for an extra hour or so before sign-off. Another example was ABC's Friday night rock show "In Concert" which later became "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert."
