Randy actually had some ‘jazz lyrics’ he didn’t know what to do with and Burton heard a line from a Bob Dylan song that went ‘she’s come undone’ and he wrote the words.

They had so many hits such as "Laughing", "Star Baby", "Albert Flasher", "Bus Rider", "Rain Dance", "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature", "These Eyes", "Follow Your Daughter Home" etc. Burton Cummings has a great voice. One of the best out there. Randy Bachman later left to form (BTO) Bachman Turner Overdrive & had many hits. And Burton Cummings had a great solo career with lots of great songs.

The song was written by the guitarist Randy Bachman, who aside from rock loved playing blues and jazz. This version is basically the same. I played bass in a Guess Who tribute band in the late 1980s. This was always one of the more fun ones because of the cool bass line.

My hometown boys ❤️🇨🇦 This song is being played like it was first recorded in 1969. Randy Bachman the guitarist lived on the same street as Lenny Breau who was a premiere jazz guitarist and influenced the band. Burton Cummings is the lead vocalist and has a set of pipes that even Robert Plant remarked on. Along with the flute Burton plays the piano. I think you have reacted to them before. The Guess Who were the ones that wrote and sang American Woman. If you want to hear Burton really go on Blues please check out Humpty's Blues by them. Cheers

Harri when the Guess Who recorded this in 1969 it was the very first time Burton had played a flute. Just prior, when visiting a music store he was told flutes used similar fingering to saxophones. He had played sax in high school band so he bought the flute just to see if he could play it. The rest is music history.

I really love their early stuff, band out of canada. But by the time Burton Cummings took over as lead vocalist, that's when this band exploded. So no they didn't rework it at all. Definitely go check out the studio cut of this. It's slightly longer than the single cut but it's all the same and the live performance here is surprisingly close. It's right around the same time I believe. They were just so good. As a guy that appreciates jazz, I sincerely wish you would go listen to their hit, and they had a whole bunch of hits, but I really love everything about his voice and the musicianship and the arrangement of green-eyed lady. Oh yeah, and you are thinking of that Dutch band called Shocking Blue I think, with she's got it. I love that so much, of course I heard it when I was a little kid but back then we didn't really have any visuals to go with it it was just the radio or the record. It was only about 5 years ago that I started seeing this old footage of them from back in the day and even then I have a crush on her to this day, laugh.

@@squirrel2000 oh man you are totally right. I love both of them so much at the same time and I was very young but I've listened to them a lot older but yeah there's really two of those Sugarloaf songs, that one and the kind of Beatles parody jab at the record industry at the time don't call us we'll call you. But somehow his voice does remind me of Burton cummings. But my high school sweetheart, her mother had somehow encountered The Guess Who when they were just Canadian band mostly and anyway at some point she had an 8-track cassette called like sewn and grown in Canada or something like that and it was about growing pot and it's before Burton Cummings and it's so early man it's totally 60 stuff but oh my God some of those songs were killer. Clock on the wall, and what's the one with all the skeletons dancing? Shaking All Over. Which I believe is a cover of even an earlier 50s kind of rockabilly thing or something.
