Nice one! I think the first person to come up with this version (at least on KZbin) is “Scotty’s gone walkabouts” and he explains it very well in “5 unique tarp shelters …”. It’s my go to shelter when I don’t need something more secure (tarp tent) or easier (plow point).

Just came across this vid. It’s great to see you giving the Gunyah shelter a go. I’ve been using it for several years now and it’s hands down my favourite shelter. I named it the gunyah which is the aboriginal word for ‘shelter’. Makes sense haha. What’s great about it is if it’s raining heavy, you can get rid of the smaller stick and drop that flap to the ground, which creates a kind of plow point shelter. There’s a vid on my channel about it.

Hope you feel better soon. Nice setup. I learned many years ago of how to sit at home and explore different tarp shelter options by using a sheet of paper cut to match the proportion of your tarp, square or rectangle. Take the paper and fold different configurations until you find a few options to try in the wild, then pack your gear and see if it works.

Great instructional video! I first saw the Alien on top of the line running across the pole in front of your pack (5:10) and fall to the ground (5:11) and back perched back on the line again (5:16), top of your backpack (7:30). Love all your BELT FED, GAS CHAMBERED, FULL STOKERMATIC SURVIVAL SYSTEMS.

The billboard tarps.. you can buy huge, cut easy to multiple sizes…install grommets wherever….my biggest unknown is weight! Well…can it be painted and retain paint during folding and transport? Curious topic… maybe even make knapsacks…I’m sure they aren’t tyvex light…but I have no doubt they are more durable!!!

Curious what size tarp that is? Don't think I could do that with my military poncho. Not even sure my 10'x10' (3x3 meter) would be big enough for that. Does look like it would work well. Thanks for sharing this.

The US doesn’t use them, we’ve used ponchos. So I enough time any specific one - but I do like the British one - would just prefer in Multicam tropic or M81.

Do hope you’re feeling better. Question, what size tarp are you using? For some reason thinking there’s tarp shelter style like this called a pile driver. Maybe I got that all wrong I should do some research. 😅 Do like itt will try your setup. For now My ground cloth is a separate peace old German Bundeswehr elephant skin ground sheet. Contemplating making modifications due to the fact it has no grommets or tie off points. Thanks for sharing definitely enjoyed watching your adventure in the woods with your beautiful dog. My best friend’s a bit smaller, but he loves going no matter where it’s gonna be hard to leave me at home they miss us too much.
@goodredman2 жыл бұрын
Hilarious! I just remembered it’s not pile driver it’s plow. That’s what I thought your tarp set up look like the plow method. Glad to see someone else out in the woods enjoying time with their best friend.🎃

Motrin and water Devil Interesting setup Might try it Have you heard/tried Henry Shires Tarp tents? Basically a siliconized nylon tarp turned into a tent So No fly needed Stoopid light weight I believe they are marketed to the ultra light BP crowd Worth a look Let’s be honest Riggs knows what the people want dammit Hence the camera hogging … That’s just a good dawg with upper management written allll over him! Outstanding stuff as always.

So I like the “Stoked” tarp shelter. I do. You’re right there’s always different situations coming up and, it means that your needs will change with them…but this is nice. If I’m planning fire beyond a Dakota fire pit or small cooking fire…I like a larger open front. Too small an opening will either cause you to sweat sleeping (bad) or the heat will cool before it gets deep into your shelter creating cold spots…(bad, most often). It’s why I like the longer open front. What size tarp did you use?! Here’s a thought brother…field test one of these “billboard” tarps that are the rage! Lots of possibilities with one!!! Next…TEA!! My friend…you weren’t feeling well and was sittin smack dab in the middle of a cure!!!! Pine needle tea!!! Quick, easy…WICKED natural medicinal…and FAST results!! As you drink it fast!! Check it out… even Riggs would like it!! 😁👊🏻🇺🇸

I think the folks over at "Wilderness Innovations" call it a Whelan style setup; kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXjPaKuXiLiWnq8 . I've also seen it called an "Adirondack" setup. It does resemble a "Whelan Lean to" if you bring the ends in some. Thanks for all the good information I've garnered from your videos over the past month or so since you first popped up on my screen.
