While I see your points, there was no white jerseys anywhere near Tony Hill in the end zone. He was wide open. The biggest risk was an ineligible player downfield which would only be five yards and you repeat the down. He wasn't very deep if he was sacked, so they would've been well within field goal range. If he had thrown the ball away, critics would be on him for missing two open receivers in the end zone. Gutsy? Maybe. I think he improvised really well. Thanks for the awesome videos. As a 58 year Cowboys fan, I’d love to see a video on Robert Newhouse, who was one of my favorite players on the team. He was an extremely underrated FB, probably because he followed guys like Walt Garrison, who was as tough as they come! As for White, I was 19 when he took over from Roger. I couldn’t see it at the time but the teams he was on were not that great. Our OL was old and our D not too great by that time. He just got a rep as a choker in big games.

For the folks who call Danny White a choker or loser or whatever, I think they should first list their athletic accomplishments and at what level they competed. It would be kind of fun to compare to Danny or any other professional athlete for that matter. For me, I could only dream about playing in the NFL, throwing 155 TD passes, competing in three championship games, numerous playoff games, pro bowls, running for first downs from punt formation, averaging 40 yards per punt, etc.

White had the unfortunate task of following Staubach and then on top of that the bad luck of the three championship games in a row that were a team effort of losing. Landry also used bad judgement in replacing him with lesser talent at QB twice during the 80`s by listening to players opinions instead of his gut and that cost the Cowboys some victories later in the decade. White should be right behind Romo as far as the greatest Cowboys QB`s and this is how I rank them. 1. Staubach 2. Aikman 3. Romo 4. White 5. Dak ( This will change) 6.Meredith

you’re normally spot on but idk if this is “gutsy” per se.. screen pass covered, minimal rush (slowest rush i’ve seen in a screen), two open receivers in the end zone. normally on a screen there’s not this much time so it would be ill-advised to hold the ball that long and you throw it away or just go down, but other than that this is pitch and catch

Danny White is one of the most underrated very good QBs (not great/HOF in any way) in NFL history. He was just a few wins away from multiple Super Bowl chances. I always enjoyed watching him play.

Jethro Pugh's numbers were hall of fame. So were Harvey Martin's. You know how you kind of wonder what it would have been like if Bob Lilly and Randy White played at the same time? Both Lee Roy Jordan and Chuck Howley did and they were awesome. So was the case with Charley Waters and Cliff Harris. Many think Thomas Henderson could have been the best linebacker ever without the distraction of his drug problem. It's more important to be remembered as a Dallas Cowboy than a Hall of Famer.

The worst part of that 83 season is the Cowboys getting their ass kicked by the Redskins at home. Both were 12-2 and whoever won that game would most likely win the division. That 4 and 1 call that Danny audibled out of and the run got stuffed, that was it for the Cowboys. They lost the 49ers and then the Rams beat them at home during the wildcard game and that was it for the Landry Cowboys when came to dominating the division. The Cowboys wouldn't win a playoff game until 1991.

I hate Dallas, but Danny definitely was one of the best quarterbacks in the early to mid 1980's. In my head I feel like he's the alternate reality version of Steve Young not winning a Super Bowl after having to follow a retiring legend. There are always what if's, White had a man very open, he was not rushed or pressured by the D. He delivered a very basic pass. As a fan I expect it. You don't become a leader by laying up.

A lot of people talk up Tony Romo as one of the great QBs in Cowboys history but I think a lot of his accomplishments are embellished a bit by the era he played in. In my mind Romo is very comparable to Danny White who unfortunately gets a bit lost in the shuffle as played after Staubach and was the QB as the Cowboys machine started to go into decline. If White played in Romo's time or he came along in an era where there wasn't a legendary QB to take over from he would be better remembered today and he'd probably get the nod over Romo in terms of skill, decision making and ability.

I was never a big Dallas fan as a kid but I dug Danny White. I remember watching the 2 fake punts game(great vid) with pops and followed White closely after. I started disliking the Cowboys when they cut him. It seemed so disrespectful. Granted i was in a cablelss home in Chicago pre-internet so they may have had parades across Texas for all I knew but even tho, going from a coach I though was a football genius to one I thought was an aşș also contributed to my attitude. I'm a full on Cowboy hater now. So much so I'll catch myself rooting against Oklahoma St. All because my dad convinced me that the only thing cooler on a football field than a quarterback is a qb who punts. 🤘🏼

Tony Dorsett and Danny White both were controlled runners. And maybe that is what it takes. One needs to have speed in reserve to be a great running back. Tony Romo never had that. He couldn't punt either.

Very good QB. Took the team to 3 straight NFC championships. More than any Dallas QB has accomplished, these last 25 years, including Dak or Romo. But the one gutsy call he made, that backfired, was that 4th and inches call in week 13 against the Redskins, in 1983. Turned the whole momentum of that game.

Actually it was week 15, as the Cowboys entered the game 12-2 and tied with the Redskins. I was a Cowboys fan from 1967-1993. To me, the 1983 season was tied with 1969 for the worst collapse in the team's history. Jerry Jones's antics ended it when he fired Jimmy Johnson. Great job Jerry for wrecking a rapidly developing dynasty.

One play that White made that was more gutsy occurred in 1982. The Cowboys were in Washington. The Cowboys were faced with a 4th and long deep in their own territory and were leading 17-10. The Redskins, set up for a return, didn't put up much of a rush. White, instead of punting, took off running. I'd have to see the replay, but I think he had run about 10-15 yards before the Redskins realized he had faked the punt. I think he ran 25-30 yards for a 1st down. The Cowboys won the game 24-10 and handed the Redskins their only loss of the strike-shortened 1982 season. That gut-wrenching 28-27 loss to the 49ers in the 1981 NFC Championship was, to me anyway, tied with the 1967 Ice Bowl and Super Bowl V for the most heartbreaking post season losses in Cowboys history.

I disagree with this assertion because the location to where Danny White threw that football was such that either a Cowboy receiver was going to catch it or it would sailed out of bounds, but since there were no white jerseys around there was no chance of that pass getting intercepted.
