For all the terrible announcers in the history of the NFL, just about all of them survived a full season before getting the axe. At the very least, they had multiple games to show off their skill set. However, in week 6 of the 2014 NFL season, UFC announcer Mike Goldberg called his first ever NFL game as a play-by-play man, a battle between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings, and was so bad that he was fired after one game, marking this the first and last game he ever called. This is the story behind what has to be the worst broadcaster in the history of the NFL on FOX

It might have been explained had there actually been a third and 17 on the previous play and he was merely a play behind (still no better but at least you can point to something), it was just bad. I'll just say, watching this game has made me appreciate a lot more the good announcers the NFL has, because you realize how hard the job truly is. Some of these mistakes are funny but I also know that if I was in the booth, I also would've made a lot of the same ones, and maybe with some nerves I could also make the major slip ups like claiming the down and distance was 3rd and 17 when that was actually the score.

That’s funny, I’ve had the complete opposite reaction. I’ll admit, though, that I’m fast forwarding in 15 second chunks. The dude who made this video is more unbearable to me than the announcer. He starts off by saying “I’m not nitpicking him for being off by half a yard or a yard,” and then proceeds to complain about him saying no gain on a gain of 2. So you’re nitpicking him by being off by 2 yards. Got it. He complains like an annoying uncle. I’m not finishing this trash video. The announcer definitely isn’t great, but I expected a bunch of nervous fillers from a total amateur. But this video sucks.

Idk about the Patterson one. Dude has been a dynamic scorer throughout his career, all the way from year one. Multiple return TDs, multiple pass TDs, multiple run TDs. Saying that he was wrong to say that, just because he hadn't done so in that season thus far, is a bit of a nitpick among far worse things.
@ConspiracyQueryDotNet

In fairness, even though he apparently had 0 TD at that point in the season, Cordarelle Patterson was a dynamic TD scorer. He could score from the backfield, as a WR and as a return man. In the year previous to this game, in his rookie season (2013), he had 3 rushing TDs, 4 receiving TDs and 2 punt return TDs (despite not being a regular starter on offense).

Sometimes I even had to be the producer of the broadcast. I never got a players name wrong, I never got the down and distance wrong. I never got a pronunciation wrong. I talked to coaches before the game, I talked to athletic directors. I made sure I did my prep leading up to the game. WITH LIMITED RESOURCES. No excuses for Mikey in this game. Still, no excuse for making that many mistakes on yardage and players involved in the play. I know on some of my football broadcasts I sometimes find it hard to tell who has the ball, but in HS games we don't have spotters on the field or 30 cameras all over the field to track the action. Yeah I hate to see his face on here and many will just associate him with this when he had a great career and is a very funny guy. His old HBO show was really good and he’s one of the great SNL weekend update hosts.

The only thing more irritating than Goldberg's announcing is the voice and attitude of the guy narrating this video. Horrible.

Dude - I agree. And actually- this idiot's voice & attitude are probably worse than Goldberg!

As a MMA fan also we also made fun of his announcing but I miss him and Joe commentating together.
