Maybe they allowed Cameron in because he had money, besides protection the only other thing going in a gang is making money. So yeah shit makes sense. But as a white boy who didn't come from a wealthy family but was an associate of several different crews or "gangs" I can say I was accepted because I was me. I didn't try to dress or talk like them. I didn't try to sell drugs or tote guns to impress anyone. I had guns, that mightve been the initial thing. Maybe I was a potential lick that changed to homies at some point. But I played basketball and in a town where whites are the minority, you're just friends with everyone. That skin color shit don't matter. I liked hangin in the hood and shooting dice, drinkin and smokin. Shit we just kicked it. Played 2k. It was regular. Then I got a lil tied up in pills and the homies had the supply so sure we were both getting something from each other. And yeah if they needed a getaway driver, as a 17 year old kid I'd prolly have done it too. Might've even been the one letting off shots. Shit happens fast. I'm just saying maybe they actually liked the kid. I'm an "upstanding" citizen now with a normal ass job and shit and I'm still liked and respected in the hood because my reputation never got tarnished, because I never joined a set, because I wasn't trying to be anything other than me and because we fucked with each other equally.
