A way underrated detail is that he’s doing this all on an upright. Many of the pieces he was playing were meant to be played on a grand piano which has a quicker action. It takes talent to do this on an upright. Edit: to clear up any confusion. An upright may have a lighter action but a grand has a quicker action and notes can be pressed much faster on a grand than an upright because of gravity assisting the hammers. Edit 2: sources- I tune pianos and teach piano for a living
@callumparker32934 жыл бұрын
I never knew there was such a difference, the more you know
@coachbrandon014 жыл бұрын
We had a Steinway grand upright where the middle pedal moved the action of the hammers closer to the strings. This allowed me to play faster. The only downside was that it felt different, and you lost the volume of the full swing of the hammers. You could use that pedal to play faster, or softer, or both. Great performance, regardless.

I normally hate things like this because they’re usually show offs, but I loved it because he’s so humble and unassuming

You should see it as sharing a talent they've worked very hard on. Not showing off, even if some people are over the top. They are proud of their achievement. Yoy should respect it

When you go into a quiet hotel and start bashing ragtime with a jazzy twist, all why bashing keyboards with your elbow, I don't think that is considerate. This OG may have pushed it a tiny bit with that exciting first piece but he does seem more respectful to the mood of the room which is admirable.

@@hamman953 would you feel the same way if someone started “sharing a talent” of screemo or rap? As someone who has a diverse music taste, can play several instruments and composes music myself, plus having gone through music college and seen all types of people with music talent. Arrogant show offs aim for the attention and think that their talent is unique and that they’re the best, when they usually lack perfectionism or social awareness; they don’t think about others feelings, they’re all about ‘look at me, look at me’. One of my old tutors was the guitarist from Prodigy who made the famous Fire Starter riff, you’d imagine he was a show off, he was the most humble guy to walk into the class room. I remembered the first piece of music he got us to analyse was Hans Zimmer - Time.

@@james-r If someone was good at rap or screemo I would appreciate it. Wouldn't be my cup of tea but I would appreciate the talent. You being a multi instrumentalplayer, a composer and had guidance from the prodigy guitarist and fire starter rift maker sound very humble in yourself and not at all a show off. Surely if you are the musician you say you are you would appreciate peoples showmanship and talents. Sounds to me your just bitter james. Sorry for you
