I was making my usual rounds to get some free samples when I saw that Costco had some grand pianos on display. The Yamaha rep was awesome, extremely nice, and was cool with letting me try out the piano, so I decided to play my 5th level of Beethoven Virus.

My life is so much better for it! How many people actually have the time to get to the theatre now day's? When we're on our deathbed I highly doubt anyone will say to themselves "I'm so glad that I completed my checklist" no way, you will only have memories and loved ones to comfort you ❤ I know this to be a fact because I worked in hospice. I remember some years ago I was on the DC Metro and some guy was playing violin at the station, and it sounded amazing. My only regret was I was running late to meet someone and didn’t stick around for more than maybe 2 minutes, because I found out later he was Josh Bell, one of the most famous violinists in the world. Sometimes we really should stop and listen to the music in our lives.

I AM SO JEALOUS. a writer for the Washington Post wrote an absolutely magnificent piece called Pearls Before Breakfast about Bell doing that that won the Pullitzer-- it's actually what introduced me to not only him, but the Chaconne, which is probably my absolute favorite piece of music that has ever been created. so i'm just grateful for even having read the piece-- i can't even imagine having gotten to see it in person, if only for one fleeting moment.

It was fascinating that the adults walked by until that one kid stopped dead. The adults assumed someone playing at Cosco couldn’t be “that good” so they kept it moving mentally. The kid heard what he heard and he heard the truth. That dead stop took me out. And then it gave others pause. What a beautiful thing to exist. Thank you.

I know I'll never reach this level, but I can't help playing anyway, because it's not about how good you are, it's how much you enjoy it.

Ditto! It's all about "solving" the songs, for me: picking pieces harder than my current level and learning how to put them together in my head and with my hands.

youll most likely exceed this level as long as you keep up your practice (and practice well, little tip from me dont do your scales and other exercises like a robot. try to make them as musical as you would any piece. in the real world you wont ever need to play like a robot, and practicing like one will only hurt your playing.)

It's so amazing how this music is one of an small amount of type of music that makes people stop and just enjoy it, I don't know any people to hear "regueton" and think "omg that sounds delightful I'm gonna stop to enjoy it" 😂
