This one simple habit is really easy to overlook, but can create some challenges with development, sleep and more. That's because it can prevent the development of essential skills that help your baby do things like rolling over.
In this video you'll learn what this habit is, and how to manage it so you don't accidentally fall into this situation.
I hope this helps!

"Tummy Time" was INGRAINED in me from my pregnancy to after birth. Even if my son "didn't like it" still TRY to do it! Including crawling BEFORE walking, it's very important! It was a lot of work 'cause my son HATED Tummy Time and crawling, but I kept at it. He's got no issues turning himself around 'cause of all the Tummy Time we've done. He's walking, now, and that was not hard to train him on. JUST the Tummy time.

What I did when my baby first started tummy time I kinda roll him over and over again on the bed because he finds it funny. 😂 Now he is 7 months and practicing crawling. He is all over the floor, falling over, rolling everywhere and has discovered how to move his arms. He is still working on moving his legs.. it will come. I let him fall over and struggle a bit till he figures it out. Have an open space with a padded floor mat and put your baby there.

I have a 3 month old who is rolling from back to front and i really appreciate this channel, BUT- This is such an eye opener regarding my balance, joint issues and overall physical condition my whole life at almost 40! The story my parents always tell is i was a super content baby, just happy playing sat on the floor with whatever was in reach. I was a late walker. Turns out i was just being lazy bc i didn't have enough tummy time?? My mind is blown. I'm staring down the barrel of a second knee reconstruction after one last year, (ive had luxating patellas since i was 14 and haven't run since the day i collapsed for seemingly no reason playing netball (literally have not bern able to run or lunge since that day) i have always had issues with posture and building muscle and I'm not terribly adventurous and tire easily! Not to mention the impacts on my mental health over the years, anxiety about everything stemming from again, literally not being able to run my whole life! It all makes sense now! 😅 I can't wait to give my baby every opportunity for his best life, so today, more tummy time! ❤🎉

Your insights are always very helpful! Thankfully, though I place him sitting up now that he can sit but he can't move to that position on his own yet, he can shift to his tummy when he wants and moves around like a little caterpillar. He doesn't stay sitting long! I have another problem with my baby's sleep, since about a month ago, at 6 months, he started waking and crying almost immediately when I place him in his bed and he ends up sleeping on me nursing all night. He used to sleep 2-4 hours at a time before I had to nurse him back to sleep. I don't know if he's going through a growth spurt, or separation anxiety, but it's so tiring!

I've always learned that they should only sit on their own and we shouldn't place them into a sitting position before they figure it out themselves. It can hurt their spine, if adults force sitting position.
@Rabarbara35
@Rabarbara35 5 ай бұрын
That’s how I learned it, too. Here in Germany, where I live it’s uncommon to place your baby in a sitting position unless they can archive this position on their own. I’ve heard some baby’s get problems even learn how to crawl and slide on their bum instead.
@Tenebien
@Tenebien 5 ай бұрын
@@Rabarbara35 Exactly. I'm from the Czech Republic and we don't do it here either. The child has to first get into that position on its own and that means they are ready for sitting, no sitting before that. Any physiotherapist would confirm that.

@@ruchiRocksta Exactly as the previous commenter mentioned. Or you can use a slightly reclined position on a stool or use your car seat. BLW method even allows to feed the child on their tummy. None of the methods are perfect, but acceptable for the short time of feeding. Also, the child is way older when they start with solids.

Oh no! I’ve been doing this too. 😢 I Hope I can fix this. He hates tummy time (because he can’t get in and out of it.) But he’s close to crawling since a few days (9mo). Reading the milestones chart did stress me though. I feel like he’s late on many things, while I always see him progress.
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard 5 ай бұрын
As long as he is always progressing that is all that matters. Remember there is a range for all milestones. Just start off slow with tummy time and help him roll onto his tummy and then help him roll from his tummy to his back when it's time for a change. This will help him learn the motor pattern to do this movement.

We have this issue too! My baby learned rolling from tummy to back at 3 months old, however she just did it a few times and then stopped doing it for months. She is now 9 months old and rolls onto her tummy all the time (so she has a lot of tummy time), but when she wants a change of position, she just cries until we roll her on her back or sit her up. We always waited for a bit to give her the chance to roll over on her own, but she wouldn't stop crying. A few days ago, she started rolling to her back again sometimes, but still complains a lot when she's on her tummy, especially at night. So I don't really know what to do about it, since she has the skills and we already do what's mentioned in the video.

You are a treasure and I love your videos! I wonder if you have any advice for my situation. My baby is 14 months old and still will not sleep through the night. She can roll all over the place and just started walking, so I don't think movement is quite the problem here. But I put her to bed between 7:00 and 8:00 in the evening, whenever she's tired and she sleeps until sometime between 10:00 and 2:00, and from there she wakes up every hour or two until we finally get up in the morning. I've had to start putting her to bed in a different room so that I can get sleep because it just got to be too much and I needed some sleep. I've done everything in all of your sleep videos and nothing has resulted in a full nights sleep. I've asked her pediatrician and they don't have any advice either. I cannot figure out what the underlying problem is.

Glad you're finding the videos helpful. In regards to your little one's sleep. How is falling asleep at the beginning of the night. Do you put her in a crib awake and she falls asleep or is she falling asleep with your help (so feeding her to sleep, rocking her, patting her or being in the room until she falls asleep) or a pacifier?
@AmyMcLean
@AmyMcLean 5 ай бұрын
@@EmmaHubbard thank you so much for your reply! She falls asleep just fine on her own for naps and bedtime. I nurse her, sing and rock her but she's still awake when I put her in her crib. She cuddles with her lovey and then she goes to sleep. For naps, if she wakes up she usually goes back to sleep on her own in a few minutes. But at night she wakes up and sometimes escalates up to screaming, other times she just starts right off with screaming.

Can you please make a video on what else to do after a baby starts crawling, pulling themselves up and cruising.... my baby is 8.5mo and I feel like she's been stuck doing this since 7mo, she from time to time pushes her push walker and sometimes let's herself go and kind of independently stand for a couple of seconds... is there anything I have to be working with her to continue her journey to walking? Maybe I'm just overthinking but I feel as if there's not much time in between her sleeping, waking bottle feed play time solids and go back down for a second nap then again same cycle then go to bed (her play time is pretty short in these 3 intervals, and I add reading time there also and some days we go outside so she's in her stroller) with all that explained I just want to maximize the short amount of time in encouraging her development.

I have this problem 😭 my baby is now 9 months, he still can't roll from tummy to back, he hates tummy time and being on his back (he screams). I was doing a lot of tummy time since birth and he has only got worse with it (now has tantrums) What's weird is that when I place him to sleep on his back he always rolls to his tummy straight away to sleep. It got to the point where he was sitting often next to a toy box as you said! Despite I did keep trying for tummy time. Now at 9 months he has a new problem where he wants me to help him walk or stand at all times 😭😂 so I can't even just let him sit there, he screams if I put him down to sit as he wants me to hold him up. If he gets on all fours he just sits up. He can just about drag himself if he has to sit his arms, but he's not crawling. Not sure what to do 😔 I will still keep trying to get him to do tummy time but he gets so angry.

From what pediatric physiotherapists say, you should never help your baby artificially, they should do things on their own on their own time, and then the development follows the proper path and by the time they are crawling, you are good and no longer need tummy time 👍

My baby still doesn't flip around, but can almost walk and she is only 8 months! She managed to gain lots of strength without rolling. In case anyone else is struggleing with that.

Mine doesn't either, he is fine on his tummy, but he flipped a few times then went straight to pivoting and crawling. He still doesn't really roll much and is about 7 months. He's just started to get from crawl to sitting so at this point it doesn't matter to much how to put him down for play, he'll end up sitting or on his tummy, it's his choice now.

Not so, many babies sit between ages of 6 and 8 months old. My oldest son didn’t sit independently until he was 8 months old and was cursing furniture at 9 months old. Each child is on their own timetable for reaching milestones and your child’s pediatrician will advise you when it’s appropriate to take action for a missed milestone. I hope this eases your worry.

My 16 month old is still drooling .. he s it normal

At this age we wouldn’t expect a child to be constantly drooling. Sometimes the drooling and mouthing can increase when they are teething but it isn’t usually all the time. If your little one is drooling all the time and you’re concerned at all I recommend you check in with your child’s doctor.

I'm glad my baby wasn't really interested in sitting, she learned to start crawling before wanting to sit up.
