Something interesting to look at would be bands that may have been huge in the 80s, but are actually releasing better albums in the 2000s (that is mostly getting ignored because radio thinks they're too old or they don't fit in with modern trends or whatever). Europe is on the top of my list for that. I liked a few songs by them in the 80s, can respect their 80s stuff a bit more now, but their more recent albums starting with 2006's Secret Society have been solid and regular listens. (I skip 2004's Start From the Dark because it felt like a misfire akin to Aerosmith's Done With Mirrors.) 2009's Last Look at Eden remains my favorite by them because they tried something different with it and it probably has some of the catchiest material they've ever written. The final track "In My Time" is probably their best ballad, though if you're a "not like the bluesy stuff" person you might think differently.

Another very thoroughly entertaining discussion. Agreed with a lot of them. Smoking in the Boys Room was odious and adolescent and even though I was 15 I still didn't like it. Make Love Like a Man and Let's Get Rocked were insanely stupid and lame even back when they came out. Cherry Pie might be a somewhat simple catchy song about sex, but at least it did that well. Those Def songs to me weren't even decent "fun" hard rock. Keep up the good work! If you're looking for other topics, maybe something on what lyrics really meant the most to you of these albums.

Even more so, during the Adrenalize sessions, they were dealing with the death of Steve. Yes, some of the songs aren't great. Let's Get Rocked is awesome live. But I'm sure they could have put out an album full of "grunge" (kind of the Slang album) or even more White Lightning type stuff (which wouldn't be terrible). I think they went into auto pilot and tried to redo Hysteria because they were still dealing with the death of Steve and they were just doing 40:14 what they knew and had worked. They even debated if they would even continue after Steve.

Agree on the Kiss song Shandi. It slipped under my radar somehow until I paused this video to check the song out. I'm now a little traumatized because of hearing it. Disagree on the hate for Def Leppard's Adrenalize. I'd even rank that as one of their best. I found the album to be pretty catchy and have a good energy to it. I have no idea how the songs on this album got dragged and the entire 'Slang' album got left untouched.

I agree with Guru, that Jackyl debut is great. Chainsaw solos in hard rock fit perfect. That early David Lee Roth is rough, I can see why Eddie didn't want to cover all those songs. As far as Def Leppard's Adrenaline album goes, its a low point for lyricism except for White Lightning and Tear It Down which were the two good songs on it. I don't mind Tease Me Please Me, it's got a great riff and the whole getting a little action on the side fits that genre well (no one needs to know😅). Your Mama Don't Dance is lame as hell, I hate the original too! I agree, Love On The Rocks is way better than that one and should have been a single. Love In An Elevator, that one I'm conflicted on, the music on it is pretty damn good but even when I was 11 in 1989 the lyrics were silly to me, but Pump as a whole was pretty good.

KISS- Heavens On Fire, Lick it Up, Let’s Put the X In Sex. Ozzy and Lita- Close my Eyes Forever. Heavy metal duets don’t work… ever. So.... Less than 55 seconds in and I'm already hearing Def Leppard! The Love Bites diss continues!!!!! Even though we're going to beef forever over Love Bites, I hear ya about Hysteria, it is great album which does have it's own distinct sound and it is a sort of mix of pop and rock but overall it's a great set of songs. WOMEN, Animal and Love Bites are fantastic rock songs.... But.... You're kinda right when you say only half the album is good, Rocket, PSSOM, They're not great songs.... For me, listen to WOMEN, Animal, Love Bites, Hysteria, Armageddon It, Gods Of War, then listen to the rest at your will, I skip a few songs from the album. I agree with a lot of what you guys mentioned here... Now I come to think of it in retrospect from our future vantage point, it seems like we only listened to about half the songs on the albums we liked in our genre, only a few albums were so good you could listen start to finish... Hollywood Vampires (LA Guns), Back For The Attack (Dokken), Firehouse (Firehouse), Night Songs (Cinderella), Operation Mindcrime (Queensryche).... It's like the CD age all over again, pop the CD in, re-order the song list to listen to your faves in descending order.... We do that now with KZbin, we just don't listen to the songs we don't like at all, some songs I haven't listened to in a loooooong time coz they're not my favourites!! What are my most hated songs... Hmmmmm.... Well I don't actually HATE many songs, There's the songs we love, the songs that are filler and the songs that are meh. I always find something to appreciate in most songs, good solo, good bass riff, good outro, good drum fill, etc.... There is one song I do hate with a passion though... More Than Words, Extreme.... I love a great Power Ballad (Anytime, I Remember You, Love Bites, Don't Wanna Be Your Fool Anymore, etc..) A bit of acoustic then into some rockin' riffs.... But More Than Words is just all bleeuugh.... It's the type of song a mid 2000's Irish Boy Band could do!! Songs I'm not so keen on.... Love Of A Lifetime, Firehouse... Too soppy, too slow, nah.... It's not as saccharine as More Than Words, but it's a bloody good 2nd place! LOL! . . . . Rock has the best love songs of any music genre, a love song doesn't need to be all acoustic and slow tempo, some of the best are fast, up tempo songs, like... I'd Die For You (Bon Jovi) Mr Rainmaker (Warrant) Helpless (Firehouse) Broken Heart (White Lion) Separate Ways (Journey) No One Like You (Scorps) ... And the greatest rock love song of all time... Photograph (Deff Lep) ... You get my drift!! Imma gonna think on this and draw up my list of least liked songs!!!

@Hair Metal Guru Ok. KISS Shandie is a AM ready radio song. Thats it. Not good or bad. Just AM radio music. To prove my point, look up Alice Cooper's "You and Me" from 1977. Can’t disagree with a majority of your lists. Here’s my 10 “hot takes”. KISS - God Gave R-n-R To You, just pure corny garbage. JUDAS PRIEST - Parental Guidance (yes Turbo is a hair metal album), 40 year old men singing about not needing any parents around. WHITESNAKE - Fool For Your Loving, lifeless rehash of an older song after the complete brilliance of the 87 album. TWISTED SISTER - Leader Of The Pack, just why ??????? EUROPE - The Final Countdown, hated it from the very first time I heard it. I preface the next 5 with the fact that I love ballads ( just not these ballads) OZZY & LITA - Close My Eyes Forever, ughh makes my skin crawl. GUNS & ROSES - 3 shot, November Rain, Don’t Cry and Civil War, completely overblown, boring crap. And my absolute number 1 most hated hit of all time, SCORPIONS - Winds Of Change. I loathe this frigging song, I have never enjoyed one damn note of it. It makes me want to break things.

How did you possibly limit this list to 20 songs? Calling them "hair metal hits" is a stretch when you're pulling songs off of New Tattoo, which basically opens the door to all of hair metal. You don't have to dig very deep into hair metal to find pure cheese. Pretty Boy Floyd - Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz, Rock N Roll (Is Gonna Set the Night on Fire) Judas Priest - Turbo, Ram it Down Faster Pussycat - Bathroom Wall, Don't Change That Song Danger Danger - Bang Bang, Naughty Naughty, Horny S.O.B., Get Your Shit Together Kix - Blow My Fuse, Ring Around Rosie Britny Fox - Girlschool, Shot from My Gun, SIx Guns Loaded Roxy Blue - Rob the Cradle, It's So Easy Hericane Alice - Tear the House Down, Wild, Young & Crazy Bulletboys - Hard as a Rock, Kissin' Kitty Cats N Boots - Whip it Out Sleeze Beez - When the Brains Go to the Balls, Don't Talk About Roses Don't get me wrong, nearly all of that list gets played in my regular rotation, so I definitely don't hate them (OK, maybe that's a whole other video). I'm also a special kind of broken when it comes to hair metal, so I lean into the cheese as much as any other part of it.

I love the '94 album, but I completely agree, Motley with Vince ended with Decade of Decadence.

The chainsaw speel turned me completely off from Jackyl. If I want to listen to amped up blues I put Led Zepplin one on the turntable.

Rocket is actually my favorite song off of Hysteria. Women wasn't good though. Outside a couple songs, Adrenalize wasn't good either; especially lyrically. A worst song I'd add: More Than Words- Extreme. Love the band, hate that song. Also Love Of A LIfetime and When I look Into Your Eyes by Firehouse. Such generic ballad BS. I consider those songs one of the reasons why hair metal died out. You can also add To Be With You by Mr. Big to the generic ballad list.

Some songs have a corny part but the rest is alright. For example 'born to be my baby' intro, straight into 'nah nah nah' - too desparate to be catchy.

Ive just realized like many of these on this list, it's a cover. Desmond child wrote it I think

There's a lack of appreciation for humour in much of these choices - DLR, Jackyl, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, all tongue-in-cheek songs. You guys German or what?😁 When Def Leppard did update their sound with Slang, everyone hated it. But slagging hair metal tunes for cheesy lyrics? You may as well complain at the loud guitars! I enjoy just about every song discussed 😁😁

The main one I hate is “Don’t know what you got til it’s gone”. I don’t like Cinderella’s ballads. Tom should use his clean voice when singing a ballad. It’s not a terrible song but the way he sings it, I hate it.

Some of my “nails on a chalkboard” songs: Your Momma Don’t Dance by Poison is dreadful. I Won’t Forget You also by Poison is a really weak ballad. Without You by Motley Crue is garbage. Let’s Put the X In Sex by Kiss is corny trash. Don’t Cry (both versions) by GnR stinks As a big Van Halen fan, I think Jump is cringe. Love Bites by Def Leppard is 10 pounds of shit in a 9 pound bag. That song SUCKS!!

I like stryper but I have to laugh at honestly. It touches on all the 80s topics but replaces the woman and or drugs/ venues with Jesus, church and throwing bibles instead of guitar picks and drum sticks into the audience.
