I suppose I should cover this (and this is just one guys opinion, so take it as you will) I'm aware that they may/are implementing the Errata rule from Tasha's Cauldron where all classes receive a +2 and a +1 to distribute at their leisure to their ability scores. But, I'm almost willing to bet that NPC's/Companions/Hirelings/Bad-guys will have a more traditional ability score array. (Now you may be able to Respect all heroes within the game, meaning all companions etc, and that is fine. BUT, I believe that +2/+1 to any stat of your choice is reserved for the Player. The protagonist is the exception and not the rule. Meaning that if you come across a village of Halflings in the game and Combat occurs, majority of them will have a +2 dex and a +1 (insert racial subtype) I apologize for not covering this during the racial videos.

I think there is/was gonna be one named Helia, I'm not sure if she was scrapped though because we only know of the datamined content

There is supposed to be 1-2 unrevealed companions

I genuinely hope they include smallfolk Hirelings with a bit of personality and meaningful interaction to them. Two Humans (three if you include a certain Ranger), two Elves (halfie or not, and three if you include a certain old lady), and zero smallfolk for Companions seems unnecessarily discriminatory.

Well now I’m just not sure. Halfling Gloomstalker/thief who loves shiny objects and is tired of being picked on so sometimes the dark urge takes over… or a drow who is one with his dark urge….

I am going Drow Dark Urge, but fighting it--mostly. I want to play him like an anti-hero who resists his urges (best I can) on the innocent, but when it comes to those he sees as evil? Gloves are comin' off.

halflings excel at rogues and rangers? bro can't even pull the bowstring far enough. and if you're already really small why tf would you use a dagger to have even less reach. halflings really need something ''special'' to make them work cus they are a joke

I hope they make the new racial ability score system optional, otherwise it just ruins fun lore and diversity to the world
@Dankster5000 Жыл бұрын
Isn’t diversity the exact thing they’re trying to achieve with the change, as you no longer have to pick a certain race for an optimal class
@nisse18 Жыл бұрын
@@Dankster5000 If all races are as optimal then there is no diversity, since they are the same from that perspective.

I'm not sure if it ruins it, I try to look at it like this, regardless of a hero or NPCs ability score array. Their racial traits such as "lucky" or "Dancing lights" etc, remain the same. As I said in the pinned comment, I'm fine with the player being the exception and not the ability score rule. I'm a big fan of "play what you love" so if one of my table top friends comes at me with a background as to why their Elf is stronger and hardier than the rest of his people and wants to use the +2/+1 scores as opposed to the traditional elven abilities, I'm all for it. The objective is fun, and although lore/world building is apart of that fun, I'm okay with it being adjusted to allow one of my players to explore a new avenue of having a jacked up elven barbarian, or Intelligence based Halfling who is obsessed with arcane lore. So I can understand Larian opting for the variant ability scores.

@@RekitRogue I would argue that the player in your session should still have their racial ability score since they are of a specific race but also get a small bonus because they are special in some way, it is different. Sacrifice, compromise, restraint are actually important things in life for happiness and since we are humans playing a game, it carries over. It makes the game experience and the lore richer. Now instead we get choice without those things and it feels less, emptier. The game is still going to be very good in my opinion but this is just a minor unneccesary bad change that could have been avoided.
