Savard and Chelios were both going home when they were swapped for each other in 1990... Chelios grew up here in Chicago... I remember the trade extremely well because my 10-year-old self was devastated - I mean trading Savard was like losing a family member to me, lol... Look, I cried - and so did Savard (he did, it was on the news, that's how I found out).. I didn't know much about Chelios (obviously this was pre-internet) and had absolutely no idea how good Chelios was, but that all quickly passed and I warmed up to Chelios, then of course Savard came back and retired a Hawk so all was good, lol.

It's nuts, Chelios played an extra 3.25 season of playoff hockey alone, and if you combine the regular season and playoffs he played 1917 games, but he also missed a ton of games and the 04-05 season to boot - I mean he averaged 64 games a season over 26 seasons, that's just uncanny. Of course by the end of his career it really showed, I remember those last couple of seasons and it was just cringe watching him play, I mean he was only playing 7-10 minutes a game and he just looked awkward out there, I mean he was clearly done but he still signed and AHL deal with the Chicago Wolves the following season, and obviously signed an NHL deal with the Thrashers at the end of the season - presumably as a publicity stunt? then it takes him until the end of August to realize it was time to hang them up - I mean no doubt he was looking for a job all summer, only then did it dawn on him, lol... Those last couple of years may have been ugly but you cant say the guy didn't love the sport - 26 seasons is a long time and only a few guys can come close to Chelios - he's up there with Howe, Jagr, Thronton, Marleau and now Chara - crazy.
@SverigeiSverige3 жыл бұрын
He played till he was 48. But he was 22 when he started in the NHL. To bad he didn't play 1 more game in 10-11 so he could break his the with Howe on most season's in NHL.

Might have something to do with their ice time increasing. More time on ice->more points and penalties. Another explanation might be that penalties tell us something about the drive of the player. If the player is giving all he's got, he might be taking some penalties along with the increased scoring.
@RushAnthem693 жыл бұрын
