The novelization explains how Michael learns how to drive he was in the backseat of Loomis car and carefully watches him operate the car

I fail to understand the concept of novelization. I understood the origins (the first happened when VHS wasn´t even a thing so it was a way to experience the movie again whenever). But after VHS became a thing I´m surprised they kept making them and that it can be better than a movie. For instance, I watched THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS first. Then read the book and the adaptation was the same. Can´t recall if there was even something different.

@@justicierodelaliga Why would there be an novelization of the movie if it was already based on a novel to begin with? I think they just put a tie-in cover on the original novel for that one. The true movie adaptations are often based on original scripts so if any changes were made, you get to read what was intended, lots of the authors would add more depth and characterization, back story, extra scenes so they can be really fun to read.

I have to admit I was impressed by the Halloween novelization by Curtis Richards. His backstory set in ancient Celtic Ireland with the Druid princess Dierdre and the stable boy Enda, Enda killing Dierdre and her husband on their wedding night, and the Druid priests cursing Enda's spirit to walk the Earth eternally as "the Boogeyman" provide a supernatural anchor for Michael Myers.

There's a fun little Easter Egg in the H3 novelization. At one point Challis is watching Halloween on a TV in the bar and mentions that he doesn't know why, but he dislikes one of Laurie's friends. Nancy Kyes played Annie Loomis and Challis' ex-wife.

And Jamie Leigh Curtis does the public announcements on the PA system. I still think a anthology series would have been cool.

Back in 1981 when I was in 2nd grade I saw the novelization for part 1 and 2 at the public library. My mom used to take us there on Saturday afternoons and we could check out a book for the week. I picked part 1 and my mom had no idea it was a horror movie novelization because on the cover it had the ghost with a pumpkin head on it. I got the shit scared out of me that week reading the book. The next week I got part 2 and it continued the trauma 😂. During that time also Halloween II came out to theaters and my cousin and I begged my uncle to let us go to it so he took us, he and my other cousin watched Time Bandits and my cousin and I watched Halloween II. It was probably the scariest experience of my young life😂 the scene where the nurse got stabbed in the back and lifted up made me jump out of my seat. After the movie was over we ran out of the theater to go find my uncle and other cousin who were enjoying Time bandits. We got to watch the last 30 minutes of it to kind of decompress. That movie stuck with me for years. Michael Myers would invade my dreams for decades 😂 my mom found out about us going to Halloween II and was so mad at my uncle because I didn't want the lights turned off when I went to sleep and she asked me why? I said Michael Myers mask is in the room when the lights go off 😂 it was still with it watching that movie to me. I used to own the novelizations to the first two Halloween movies and the first four to Friday the 13th movies but in the 20s I gave them away to my younger brothers friend. Now those book are so high priced I'll never get them again. I guess i got carried away and wrote a bit of a novel here 😂

I had a similar experience with seeing H1 at age "too young", scared the absolute shit out of me. Slept with the lights on for years, used to walk the dog at night, didn't do that anymore, now my mother had to do it. She was pissed as hell. 😂 I saw his face everywhere for years. 😅

Honestly this was a unique touch for the slasher glory days. And learning Dean Koontz wrote the novelization of “The Funhouse” surprised me. “April Fool’s Day” is one that actually adhered to the original ending they had planned to fit the slasher formula; I think the finished product actually ditched it and played a joke on its audience 😅 Also Alan Dean Foster’s novelizations are great. I read “Force Awakens” and it was good & I currently have the audiobook version of “Alien 3” in my Audible list

There is another "Halloween" novel, & it's about a serial killer. I forget the author, but a disclaimer says it has nothing to do w/the movie. It came out abt the same time as the movie, & I remember the cover showing a haymound w/a foot sticking out of it. I never did read it, but should just to settle a 40-yr wonder about what it was about...! Thanks for the memories!
