There's a funny interview somewhere where one of the people that worked on Halo mentions seeing a speedrun of the game, and when they saw some of the levels they were like "Holy shit, we didn't know when to stop..." They copy+pasted a lot of parts in stages and also didn't really know how to trim down their stages to be more fun; basically doing very minimal playtesting on the levels beyond trying to meet a "playtime quota". They didn't have time to do any more than that!

okay so the deployable cover in Halo 3 is actually rad for two reasons. - It blocks damage from the front but you can shoot bullets through the back meaning you can take cover whilst dropping some grunts and thinning the herd of enemies, it has utility over the bubble shield in that way. - If you stand inside it in a precise way it yeets you accross the level like a slingshot

@@foulenergy the best place to use it is on the second level where the drones fly out of the pipe, if you place a cover in front of a turret and shoot through it you can mow down the buggers without taking a hit and it's seriously satisfying

That's what mods are for. Ruby's Rebalanced, Halo 3 ODST d6efinitive edition and Halo 4 Reflow. They rebalance the game pretty well (Especially Halo 4 Reflow)

I had a similar feeling to you. Played reach first but just don't like the game. Played Halo 1 and got the appeal but also feel like the game didn't aged well (mostly because of copy pasted sections and hunters without magnum). Played 2 and was like "why am I only using plasma rifle and that alien sniper?". Fun stuff got easily ruined by some small bullshit. Then played 3 and it was like the best FPS I've ever played.

I actually thought Halo 5 addressed the Prometheans by giving them more of an identity. For weapons: boltshot and suppressor have homing shots to compensate for mediocre damage, the light rifle is now a psuedo-power weapon like the CE Plasma Rifle with a more reasonable ammo economy, the scattershot has ricochet and post-ricochet homing rounds, the binary rifle is a bit like the focus rifle but with short bursts seen as single ammo charges, the incineration cannon is mostly the same but I regarded that as halo 4's most interesting promee gun anyway, and the promee grenades are really good, immediately exploding on impact with a shrapnel field which does immediate and lethal damage which also can stick around and act as area denial. I'm not sure how to feel about the "armor" system for the new promee officers, its a form of headshot protection like shields but doesn't regenerate and is not vulnerable to plasma damage. Knights have been buffed but now act as a miniboss enemy like hunters, with a similar take on armor and weak points to remove said armor that exposes its backside to weapons damage and beat downs / assassinations. Warden eternal continues the trend of bad halo bosses, this time by copying destiny's style of big-bad who brutally punishes you for trying get close to it and is also reused ad absurdium and acts as a bad punchline for most combat gauntlets. TL:DR - Halo 5 is a cool game, mostly.

First review I feel like gave a honest review of the Halo Games. If I recall right the reason why equipment was downgraded from Halo 3 to Reach is because a very vocal minority hated the equipment and dual wielding. This is also what my Half Brother's Uncle told me who worked on Halo 2 through 4 (Including Reach)

From what I've heard, dual wielding was a pretty controversial design decision within Bungie, with some devs loving it, and others hating the mechanic. After ODST came out, and it was removed, they figured on just sticking with it being gone for Reach. There are some fans that dislike the mechanic too, but I've only seen them become more vocal about that over the last couple of years.

I legit hope you're joking/trolling when you said Reach has the best soundtrack of the series, there's a few good nuggets in there like Wing and a Prayer and Dead Ahead but it's almost nothing but unmemorable jungle drums. I think CE has aged like a fine wine. It's a little clunky yes but otherwise it's one of my favorite Halos and games of all time. Multiplayer is so damn good and only Halo 3 tops that. I agree that Chief is little weak in Halo 2 but I actually like the challenge. You have to be careful and I like the fact you can't just rush on enemies. Also the shield system was so damn good. It's so much better to seek for a cover, recharge and you're good to go again than to seek for health packs all the time.

I wondered about the AI stuff, on "cortana" the big circular room with the giant pit underneath seems to have some kind of scripting problem with the flood lobsters. A lot of enemies just kind of sat around. I definitely enjoyed the arbiter's levels more in halo 2, but they still feel lame to me compared to every other game in the series.

@@foulenergy odd since when halo 2 does give you engagement freedom it does it as good as 3 and ce though the hold out portions of the game are rightfully tedious, it is also by far the minority design of the campaign. but the implications that halo 4 would be a side grade to reach therefore better then 2 and ce is just *wrong*
