Did not expect to see Grant Kirkhope on here. That's really cool that he and Marty know each other, it always feels like dev teams don't really interact much but knowing that Bungie and Rare were on good terms with each other is actually really cool. I remember a great story Grant told at a panel once where apparently Rare was invited to a massive event in Japan for either the N64 or Goldeneye's success and at this event Grant met Shigeru Miyamoto and after introductions with his translator and a handshake he assumed that was that. Around five minutes later Grant went to the Men's room and saw one of his coworkers at a urinal and tried to pull his trousers down as a good ol' lads joke and halfway through struggling to pull them down and laughing about it he just turns to see Miyamoto looking down at him confused. It had the whole panel laughing and that's probably what Miyamoto thinks about when he thinks of Rare of the 90s.

I absolutely love how much passion Grant Kirkhope has for his work. You can tell just by his body language how he perks up when talking about the games he’s been able to put a personal touch into. It’s kind of funny how you told him that you didn’t want to take up too much of his time, because his close family and friends are all probably tired of hearing his stories.
@jordanlee32583 ай бұрын
Yes both him and the first developer guy you can tell love their work. I also love when people are excited to talk about their work, it’s so much nicer than for example Harrison Ford speaking about Star Wars.
@3ofSpades3 ай бұрын
I can also tell that they take great pride and scapegoating their superiors instead of taking any initiative to fix things that they see as problems in their industry and just tell people to stop complaining about them. Clearly, the sign of somebody who has confidence in their work is kind of person who would tell people to stop being negative and complaining about their work just so they don’t hear the noise. Marty and Grant are being pretentious in this video and they need to get off their high horses. How incredibly patronizing do they have to be to say this crap to their fans? Apparently very. And manipulative on top of that to try and frame it as if telling people to stop complaining about games that suck is a good thing. He's also so wholesome he'd vote to take away a woman's right to decide on whether or not she wants to carry a child concieved from Sexual Assault. So cool and wholesome Bungie fired him and the people who used to work with him actively talk about how much of a pain he was to work with. I’m glad to see Marty agrees with the fan base about 343. I don’t hate any bottom level programmers or developers. But the reason Bungie halo was so good, was because the corporate bureaucracy didn’t exist as much back in those days. It’s gotten so much worse since then. Back then halo games were a passion project mainly, and since it was such a developing era, Microsoft backed off a fair bit and let bungie do their magic. Nowadays big companies like EA, Activision, Epic Games, Nintendo, Ubisoft, etc etc; control every aspect of games and focus mainly on sales which is sad.
