People who say it’s ”fine” and that you shouldnt complain don’t seem to get it. It’s live action Halo, it should be a dream come true, 6 or 7/10 doesnt cut it for an IP that’s so beloved. People want LOTR quality, band of brothers, game of thrones. Star wars is suffering the same way. I don’t want to excuse sub par or filler stuff in such massive IPs - they should be treated with care and respect. Not good enough is plenty of reason to complain.

None of this would be happening if they'd just committed to not showing Chiefs face.. They could have used the original voice actor for much cheaper, not had all the drama soap opera shit, and just made a good Halo story. Probably10-20% of the season budget is just for these "name brand" actors who nobody wants to see. Then they obviously need screen time to flex their acting chops, which again nobody wants to see. There's no other reason for Makee to exist.

There are several things the show does really well in isolation. I actually liked the dialogue between Chief and Kai, but like I said, in isolation. The idea of John having a revelation that he's not JUST a guy in a suit like Ackerson said, but that he's more than that, and now he's challenging Kai to have that same revelation. It's compelling. BUT IT DOESNT WORK IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SHOW. The show forgets what the show even established. That scene only works if Kai isn't the first one to remove her pellet after Chief and doesn't show signs of questioning her orders throughout S1. It makes no sense for her to be so devoted to ONI considering everything that happened so far. It's also too soon in the story and there hasn't been enough substance to build up that moment. So it feels unearned. It's a shame because the show does some stuff well, but it keeps shooting itself in the foot. It doesn't respect the source material, but requires that the viewer have some knowledge of the source to understand certain implied aspects that it doesn't explain. On top of that, it continues to focus too much time on side quests and secondary/tertiary characters that rob us of time spent with main characters. AND THEN forces these dramatic moments that have no oomph because there was almost nothing leading up to them. Sad.

They keep trying to have deep moments, but each character has such little development. I can't give a about what any of them are saying. Also, you'll notice that almost every scene on a space ship is actually the same set from different angles 😂
