I've got the original aluminum one, I use the heck out of that thing on pretty much every project. It's just the perfect size to pocket easily, and I'm never worried about the darn thing ending up getting knocked out of true or something. I'm really tempted by one of the large stainless ones now!

Switch to metric - not only will your measurements be easier to do, but also you won't want to buy these tools as Woodpeckers seldom make them in metric.
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 жыл бұрын
I think you're trying to be humorous, but "seldom make them in metric" is just wrong. Well over 80% of our measuring and layout tools are available in metric. The few that we do not offer in metric are because of indexing features that would require a complete tool redesign for (what is for us) a limited market.

@@julianniemeyer1655 Why do metric fans spend so much time criticising non-metric? Are you so insecure about your choice that you need to do this to convince yourself? If you prefer metric, then use it. Those of us who don't use it don't need the endless lectures.

Woodpeckers tools are #1 in the construction of the tool and its accuracy. I have many Woodpecker items especially both types of these squares and I use them all the time. I even to line up my table saw blade 90 degrees to the table and placement of my drill press table 90 degrees to the drill chuck. I use these squares as my calibration gauge to compare other angle tools and projects in my shop. I am glad to see that they now sell and use the mechanical pencil that I suggested to them a while back for even more line accuracy. Keep up the great work and products. Thanks!

I have the original aluminum and a 6" stainless steel. I absolutely love these squares. The biggest benefit to these squares which surprisingly wasn't mentioned in this video is how much time is saved in layout work using one of these squares instead of a traditional square. At least that has been my experience and why I love them so much. It's the first square I reach for, and often does most or all of the work I need.
@nafnaf0
@nafnaf0 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think a 'speed square' is much more useful for layout than a traditional square. In fact I can't really think of any advantage to a regular square. I wish they would make a 12" version

I work as both finish carpenter and cabinetmaker. I own both aluminum and stainless steel Delve Squares. I use the little aluminum one on site, where I have found that on any but very smooth surfaces, the small diameter leads that will fit tend to break easily. I customized my square to accept leads from my 2.0 mm mechanical pencil and my Picas by reaming the marking holes with a 3/32" bit, using a drill press. Given the tolerances appropriate for finish carpentry, as opposed to cabinetmaking, and the fact that the 3/32" bit self-centers in the original holes, my modified Carpenter"s Delve Square has turned out plenty accurate for my purposes, (much better than generic carpenter's speed squares) while rendering it far more practical for typical on site tasks. I suggest Woodpeckers consider offering this version.

@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 2 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the add on table, that is our DP-PRO. If you're an eagle-eye, and you're looking at the table the DP-PRO is mounted to, that is what Delta called the "Production Table". Much larger than the standard table, with a coolant trap all around the perimeter and a gearbox elevation system.

I needed a regular Delta table for the DP-PRO installation video. I bought one off eBay with the intention of turning it back around after I shot the video. Turns out, having it as a "catch-all" table works really well, so it's part of the family now.

Will a .7mm mechanical pencil fit into the scribing guides or is a .5mm preferred?
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 жыл бұрын
You can use a .7mm. A .9mm is what I'm using in the video. Either is a better choice than a .5mm, unless you have a very light touch.
@kyleolson8977
@kyleolson8977 Жыл бұрын
I think a 9mm is the best bet for nearly all the Woodpeckers Triangle/Square scribing guide holes. The 7mm is ok but a little less sturdy. The 5mm is usually not worth the headache. It breaks too much, especially on this tool because of the depth of the hole.

@@WoodpeckersLLC Metric versions would be great. The rest of the world outside the USA uses metric and more American woodworkers are using metric as well. I use lots of 18mm and 12mm plywood, for example, so 6mm and 9mm setup blocks would be very useful for setting up tools for grooves, dados, etc.
