Lots of rare footage in this fantastic film about the life of Hank Williams. Worth watching just for the duets between Hank and Kate Smith and Hank and Anita Carter., although not available for German listeners.

"A picture from the past came slowly steelin', as I brushed your arm, and walked so close to you. Then suddenly I got that old-time feelin'. I can't help it if I'm still in love with you." Some of the most romantic words ever written, and a very romantic moment.

When I was 21 my roommate in university came home with a brand new 33 1/3 L.P. of Hank William's Greatest Hits. To my surprise, when he played it I knew all the words and could sing along. My dad used to listen to nothing but Hank when I was a toddler, about 3 - 5 years old, and I had learned the lyrics to his songs subliminally!!!

In that duet with Anita Carter, Hank and Anita’s chemistry was absolute. I don’t know if they ever had a thing and I’m not trying to say they did, but the way they sang that song felt like two lovers singing from their souls. It’s amazing how well they meshed together. Now and forever a dedicated Hank Williams Sr. Fan and much love from Georgia, USA, Ron.

This is far from true. There is plenty of good country music out there, you just have to look. The radio isn't the only place that plays music.. People think country is dead because they don't look enough, and support the small guys.. Apparently you have no idea who Colter Wall is, or Tyler Childers.. He is one of the best singer/songwriters out there today, good ole boy from Kentucky who sings true music from the heart. Chris Stapleton, Turnpike Troubadours, Jason Isbell, Cody Johnson, Sturgill Simpson, Ryan Bingham, John Moreland, are just a few.. Don't fucking degrade the guys trying to live this genre out because you can't open your eyes and ears enough to find these guys.

I don't know if there has ever been a single entertainer that had such an impact as Hank Williams. The man was only 29 years old and had written more songs than some writers do in a 50 year career. Before he passed away, some were already calling him the "Legendary Hank Williams" which is a title that most don't earn until their hair is silver. Rolling Stones magazine did a top 100 influential songwriters of all time list and Hank hit at number 13, number one was Bob Dylan and yet Bob Dylan said "if you ask me, Hank Williams in the number one of all time". When you think of all of the legends of music, the biggest names, Elvis, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles etc... nearly every one of them would tell you that they were inspired by Hank Williams. He's been gone for nearly 70 years and today he is as highly revered as ever, people still perform and record his songs... I hope that Hank knows the love people still have for him. I recently was fortunate enough to have found a Grand Ole Opry program that was signed by Hank... I got chills just holding something in my hand that Hank Williams had touched- that is how much of an impact he has had on me. I've collected music memorabilia for 30 years, but never thought I would ever be fortunate to own something signed by Hank. I am thrilled beyond words.

No Hank Sr., was the best singer ever in Nashville. I was little and oldest brother had every ablium when I found out at the age of 7 he was dead.I cried for weeks. When I was little I told my mom everyday when I grow up I going to marry Hank St. Then momma told me he died in 1953. I was born in 1960.

Amazing what this man accomplished in such a short time. My brother just died at 30.. too young to go. Most people dont accomplish what hank did at 29 by the age of 103. I feel like my brother and Hank still had a lot to accomplish. Sucks to see people pass away at such a young age.

Hank Williams wasn't just a country singer. He was country itself. Him along with several other like Patsy Cline and a few others. Who could just walk on stage without any of the showmanship we have now. A man and a steel guitar. Along with a bottle of whisky and a broken heart managed to capture everyone from ordinary people and music icons. The number of those that covers his song is only equal to the names in the rock and roll hall of fame. From Ray Charles, to Bob Dylan and almost every legend in between. Almost everyone who heard it could relate. Hank once said when asked how he writes his songs. His reply was "you have to live it". Before hank very few songs were about personal heartbreak. He wasn't the first to do it, but he was the first to make nearly all his songs about something that impacted his life and take it mainstream. The country we have now has a pop sound to it which im not to fond of. I can always depends in putting on Hank and hear a song about a life with the sweet sound of a steel guitar.

Hank Williams was one of my distant relative's. i found out about three months ago. My father was adopted by his step father changing our last name to Crawford, because his real father drank himself to death. My grandfather was born in Banks, Alabama, and it just so happens to be where Hanks first wife is from. We traced our lineage back at our family reunion. I think its pretty cool, considering he's the king.

david crawford My husband's father was Hank's first cousin, they were raised together in the logging camps. Some of his pictures are in this documentary also. What line are you related through?

I only went south once to visit a musician friend who lived in Montgomery. How cool it was that he took me to Hank's grave ---- as he knew I would appreciate it. I didn't even know that's where he was buried. But I never forgot it.

My favorite story about Hank is his response to a question about how he was able to write so many songs. Hank said he didn't write anything, he just put the pen on the paper and the Lord took it from there. In my opinion Hank Williams is the finest composer America ever produced, regardless of genres or eras. His music stands up as well today as it did 70 years ago. I feel bad for his son being pushed into the business the way he was by his mother and I'm not a big fan of his sound but his father did love him and he has done the best he could to keep Hank's legacy alive. I heard Hank's daughter Jett, who didn't know Hank was her father until she was out of high school, sing and I think she got more of Hank's sound in her genes than any of his heirs. I have always wondered what could have happened if Robert Johnson and Hank had both lived a bit longer and were able to collaborate as song writers. I think they would been the U.S. version of Lennon/McCartney. But that is something we will never know. Some thing's God only makes one of, and he only had it in Him to make one Hank Williams. I imagine He heard I'm So Lonesome I could Cry and the rest and just said, that can't be topped. That could be why he called him home so soon. He wanted that voice and that soul near Him in Heaven. I guess He figured He had shared him with us as long as He could bear it. RIP Hank. My dad and I didn't have much in common, but we both agreed on your music, and you helped inspire me to pick up a guitar. I was never as good as you, but I know the sweet feeling when you get something right on it. I'm looking forward to hearing you live on the other side. Maybe you can teach me to yodel. Bye for now friend. Thanks to the person who put this out here. Great stuff.
